  • Do you know how expensive it is to launch shit into space (payloads, much less shuttle missions)? There's also degredation due to solar radiation and particle bombardment to consider. Read the wiki article here, it pretty much lays out the launch costs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_p...e#Launch_costs

Do you know how difficult space power satellites would be to service compared to ground solar farms, because of the above launch costs?

Not trying to dispell the notion of SPS here. It really is a great idea and will probably be how the Earth will be powered, perhaps a century from now. But with launch costs the way they are now and no cheaper/better fuel solutions than LOX/LH2 and Hydrazine, it's going to be a while before this is feasible.

    • Jerome you are spinning things, you are bending reality to fit your own moral. The China economy isn't even big enough to afford a bigger oil consumption than the United States. Their industrial revolution ran on coal and is only a decade old, don't think they just switched between coal to oil and back to oil in ten years. They never consumed more oil than the United States and their oil consumption per capita is still laughable (My country is in the top 10 of oil consumption per capita).
But my guess is, that when the Chinese economy will grow big enough, that Asia will be the region that will come with the great innovations when it comes to energy. The entire region will grow, the Western countries will try to keep them down and deprive them from oil. The way they set up the Olympic games shows the way they do business makes it possible to do whatever they set their mind to.
Of course it will eventually slow down / disappear when they grow closer to a democratic country.

          • Once again concrete I have to go to work but one glaring statement I noticed.

Really? It's really that black and white to you? So how do you rectify what John Hancock did at the Boston Tea Party, then? That's terrorism, by your definition. "John Hancock, Senior Terrorist" is what you're saying? The burning of the Peggy Stewart? Terrorism. By golly, our nation's country is so gosh-dern full of terrorism, I can hardly stand it!
If you want to change the definition of revolution into terrorism thats fine, although there is a difference between fighting a countries armed services and killing a countries civilians to incite fear. None of our fore fathers went out of their way to go kill innocent civilians. We didn't make plans to bomb British ships full of civilians to make Britain scared of us. Do you honestly not see the difference between the two. I know you are so threatened by my conservatism that you are almost willing to say anything to get your point across. But don't insult my intelligence, and the intelligence of other forum goers by making terrible fucking arguments like this. It just makes you look bad.

            • I always thought that soldiers were people too, people in service of the people. So any action of a soldier is ordered by civilians, then why kill the puppet when you can kill the master?

That's my point: you're not looking at things in context at all.

What do you think the British would have called the American revolutionaries if the American Revolutionary War started today? Give an honest answer. And don't try and tell me that the American revolutionaries had some kind of magic, British-seeking musket balls or fairy-dust-sprinkled explosives.

Innocents WERE killed, and most likely, indirectly and directly. And I'll spare you the "Webster's defines 'terrorism' as...", but you can go look it up if you'd like.

If being able to rationally look at things and classify them appropriately makes me look bad, then so be it. But if you're trying to tell me that I'm redefining terrorism just by using your concrete "a turrrist is a turrrist" example, then you're missing the point.

And just so we're clear, am I glad the Revolutionary War took place? Sure. Do I think John Hancock was a terrorist by today's standards? No. Do I think Bill Ayers is a terrorist by today's standards? No.

Dont face the reality than. Back when Democracy was invented slaves were not considered people any only those who wanted the same things (for example keeping slavery) were allowed to vote. Today you have human rights and seperation of power but there is - with the exception of irrelevant tings - only one political way to vote left. The bureaucracy in charge serves no purpose other than ruling over the working class, at least back in greece the slaves were aware of their chains. I just can not accept this 6 pages pro politics thread without even hinting at reality.

Time out, everyone note that our resident anarchist has reminded us, once again, that governments are an effective method of control. Okay time back in, back to big boy politics talk.
