yeah I do it alot, the trick is to get up real early and call in so your sure no one will actually pick up the phone so u dont have to give an excuse. I usually just say "im sick" , then I turn off all my phones so they cant call me back LOL. it only works at about 5 a.m. though, if they answer then im screwed cause they always make me come in and i feel like an idiot.

I usually call in sick 2-3 times a year when I'm just exhausted. When everyone has a BlackBerry we don't call in sick, we send an email so you don't have to put on the fake sick voice and cough a couple times.

I try to have them land on Tuesday-Thursday as the world would fall apart if I missed a Monday and Fridays always draw suspicion.

i have been legitimately sick many times on a monday. everytime they say "oh that's ok, feel better, see you tomorrow". Everytime the next day it's like "oh, felt like a 3 day weekend, hunh?" or "musta been partying too hard the other night, right?"

I did that to the last consulting company I worked for. Sans the phone call. I just stopped showing up. Then I went and travelled the world. Collected unemployment, filled out some grad school apps, etc.

best time of my life.

edit: I had a life epiphany though. And money in the bank. So this probably isn't practical for everyone.

HR deals with people who take off, but in my line of work (trading) people really can't miss a day unless they really need to, it's a big set back. If I knew an employee was literally 'skipping' I'd fire them the next day. Although it's bad to miss a day, if I have to (whether I'm sick, or my kids are), I am able to do a lot of work from home from my computer or blackberry.

I had jobs growing up where I'd play hooky though. Obviously I'd call in, but when you're doing something you really don't like it's really too tempting to call in.

Who the fuck would use a place where they just walked out or quit i guess if they knew somebody but still it shows up as job abandonment
