Yeah I know, although I took most of the texture shots myself
I could try make something without textures but It would literally take too long.
And since everyone nowadays just take someone elses planets and stuff I thought you might think I took my planet out from something else or used other peoples work. From blank black canvas with few grass shots doesn't just happen to get into that so I would call it quite made from scratch.

And if that's the criteria of scratch then I know 0 people who have made planet works out of scratch.

Display some of your non-planetary-death-explosion-space-fuck art. I'd like to see what else you can make epic.

The larger planet looks like it's made out of tinfoil, which may have been the metallic finish you were looking for, just looks a little tacky. Also the light of larger planet doesn't seem to emanate 'properly' from it.

    Pretty good though, props.

I make everything from scratch. I used some textures on the planet although I tried painting more on it. Used around 50 textures which mostly were from my camera anyway. Then clued some stuff together from every photo to get the stuff I want. Then I started painting rivers, mountains and stuff. Once that is done I color it, that usually is the most annoying part after 6 hours of clueing. (4000x4000px isn't that small piece to make)
Once that is done I make it into a sphere and it literally takes weeks to make something. That's why I try to keep the size small sometimes when I'm just experimenting.

And if you want a wallpaper just save it, rotate with windows paint or the viewer and put as desktop. Might be a bit blurry but should work enough good for you..

I did mine a bit different:

Host your images online with an easy to use image uploader, albums, photo hosting, sharing, dynamic image resizing on web and mobile.

I'm pretty sure the only thing he does is starts off with a texture that he uses for a planet. Even then, he most likely manipulates it to create a unique planet with a unique characteristics (mountains, rivers, etc.). The clouds can be done with brushing techniques as well as the nebulas. It takes a lot of time, skill, and effort to create all of those into one of his spacescapes.
