Except that laser eye surgery isn't covered by any 'socialist' health care program unless it's a medical necessity. Most, if not all eye surgery clinics are 100% private

Still, there are a few eye places in Houston that are some of the best in the world. People come from all over the world to have it done here.

Some doctors carry astigmatism correction. Usually astigmatism is the underlying problem or some correctional issues and carries long/short distance problems, so while they may not cure the curvature of the shape of your eye, they will fix the problems that come from it.

The reason why I'm asking Epinephrine about a clinic that is known for doing eye surgeries, lasik, is because he's a medical Doctor whose opinion carries some weight, your opinion on the other hand does not.

Eye Surgery isn't covered by my Universal Health Care. If I want to get this done, I'm going to pay someone who's more less going to charge me a lot of money. Not everything is covered by our Universal Health Care system, and if you want to actually accuse Canada of being a socialist country I suggest you get out of your bubble you've surrounded yourself in.

Are you about done making an ass of yourself? Good.

contacts are a bitch but at least I forget how bad my vision actually is when I'm wearing them.

I found a video of someone getting a lasik surgery on youtube, I think I'll obviously wait to get it done. (probably find someone better to get it done)

I knew a guy how had it done, he seems fine now but his eyesight was never that bad either. His eyes where very irritated after it and I could see blood! My other friend wants to get it done but he doesn’t have a steady prescription so can’t.

I’ve never really looked into it, I’d love to have perfect vision but at the moment I just wear glasses for that. I’d be too paranoid to get this done incase something went wrong, my eyesight is quite bad without glasses but not terrible and my lens are quite thin without any reduction. I only started wearing glasses when I was 20 and I failed with contacts ! I found it too hard to put them in.

Think my last prescription was like -1.25 and I’ve a 0.25 C astigmatism too

Had the surgery over 10 years ago...still 20/20...but at my age, I am starting to see a need for reading glasses Distance and night vision are excellent...no haze either.

They map your eye/cornia prior to any surgery to ensure that your a candidate.

Just make sure you go to a really reputable clinic for this procedure.

I went to Kremer Laser Eye surgery center for my procedure. Dr. Kremer helped invent the process. Oddly enough, I know people that have gone to a hospital in Philly (Wills Eye Hospital) that specializes in eye trauma and surgery and they have screwed up quite a few people. Kremer offers a lifetime guarantee...if your vision gets worse over time, they will perform and correct the problem.

There must be some type of DB online that reviews these centers.

Best thing I ever had done for myself....go for it and just get screened and a good Doc. People travel here to Philly for Kremer to do the work...it's an interesting waiting room packed with ppl....takes only 1/2 hr for both eyes to be done...was seeing 20/20 immediately after...they have you wait a 1/2 hr. and bring you back to read the eye chart...was amazing!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

BTW...It is totally painless!!!!!! don't be freaked out over watching it on a video. having a hair pulled from your head involves more pain than this procedure.

Epi: I have seen ads for $250, that was going to be my next question. Is lasik a joke? How much does it cost to get it done properly?
Where did you see $250? I've heard $500 over and over.

Anyway, there are a few big companies that do it, anyone who has a lot of experience is probably pretty good. Really the procedure is more about the technology rather than the experience of the doctor. And keep in mind that all the doctors doing it, are certified eye surgeons who do eye surgery for a living regularly anyway with far harder procedures.

The entire procedure takes like 45 seconds, the harder part is all the measuring. It's also completely painless, although afterwards I hear your eyes sting for a day or two, but after a few days it's fine. Sort of like getting a cataract removed.

As for the pricing, it usually works like this. Those low-quoted prices you hear are basically for those with 25/20 vision you can think, who really don't even need laser correction. The worse your eyes are, the more they charge. If you have astigmatism they charge more, and so on.

So it's a sliding scale depending on how bad your eyes are that they decide the price. I had one friend who had really bad eyesight and for him it was $5000, he did it at TLC where Tiger Woods had it done. I had another friend who had not so bad eyesight and she got it done for $2500.
