Jerome you've become quite the political observant of late. And you haven't been here in a while. As jeen asked, how have you been man?

jeen and xog: i have been out and about! i posted about getting that job as a delivery driver... totally not what i expected. loads of fun. besides that i'm also kicking ass at school, definitely going to be a history major.

i totally tripped shrooms for like 3 days at the beach and i find it hard to give too much of a fuck about "the shit" anymore, i just go skateboarding and fishing and shit. but i'm always reading, just not about the present... because you know everything being said right now is not gonna be sorted out for quite some time.

i quit smoking cigarettes because of the new tax. jacking the price up two bucks to pay for child health care seems nice and all... but it just opens the door up for the government to tax anything, if they find someone who is "in need". it sucks, but i got the hookup at my local gas station, my buddy ahmed will sell me black and mild's for pre-tax prices.

it's amazing. when i try to quit smoking, i never could. but now that it's a political issue, i haven't even thought about buying a pack in over a week. i gotta say... anarchism is good for my health.

seriously jerome fuck all this shit, how have you been? still working at that pizza place?

cmarx, hello, how are you? have you listened to any good music lately that you should turn me on to? are you going to road trip to the stampede this year to fingerbang some male cowboys and horses?

i'll answer your questions because i'm not polite enough to wait for you to ask me. i'm doing fairly well, school's ending and i'm looking for a summer job. i still have my cd store job but it's getting pretty gay because they're hiring people with pretty terrible taste. i've also got my janitor job at an elementary school if either of you knew i had that i don't care i still have it. by the way, do either of you know of any good podcasts for me to listen to? right now i'm only subscribed to two cbc radio 3 podcasts and i need some more to keep me busy during work. i don't have anything else to tell you off of the top of my head, cmarx, as i'm assuming jerome will skip over this post because it does not deal with the recession, asian tang, dr. pepper, or ron paul.

jeenyuss i will have to tell you my awesome pizza place stories. i have delivered pizzas to mardi gras floats. i have seen people die. i have raced a locomotive to get across the rails before it did. i never make less than $10 a delivery. everyone is in a band. it's across the street from centenary college, so there's always awesome people chillin. and plus, we always have kegs of beer on tap... how fucking nice.

we got a new microbrew recently called andy gator... holy fuck. 10% abv.

sometime i will tell you about my huge irish friend, sweet "suga" shane. you will fall in love with his insane life.

Liquidity crisis or not....if the banks are broke then they are broke and can't lend, so isn't defining whether there is a crisis or not kind of inconsequential? They are broke, bottom line, and I understand that knowing how they got there is important, but in the end they are broke and need to either declare bankruptcy or receive supplements in order to stay afloat right?

The argument is roughly that if toxic assets were indeed underpriced, "receiv[ing] supplements in order to stay afloat" might be a viable policy for the government to follow, but since (allegedly) they're not underpriced, this policy can only worsen any economic damage caused by falling asset prices.

(for the record the fact that toxic assets reflect their true value does not in and of itself invalidate a Keynesian approach though)

I have not read the entire article, just ones included in this thread. It seems to me the main point you tried to make was whether Laissez-faire/free market is a better policy to adopt than government interventions (Keynesian) ... which is the the root to a lot of economic debate.

I must admit I am not a historian, but I did major in economics (for one of my degrees). If I am not wrong, most monetary & fiscal policies were introduced after Keynes' book in the mid 1930s which is ... after recession of the 1920s.

Well, maybe ... just maybe if the government did not try to stop the recession seven years ago, the current crisis wouldn't be so bad, lol.
