Counter target Mac with Mac Mini, no desktop available at the moment.

What do you use the mac mini for? as a movie streamer? Do you use plex on it, and if so, how's your experiance with mac mini playing mkv's?
im using the tvix 6500 as a network media streamer, but a collegue wants to get the mac mini..

I'm using it to watch movies, anime, and general surfing. It's pretty good at playing small MKV files (anime). A 2.16ghz, 4gb ram Mac Mini will sometimes (rarely if you don't pay attention) skip some frames while playing 1080p movies, even with Plex. Being the perfectionist I am, it really irritates me. But I'm almost 100% sure that Snow Leopard later this year will optimize the Intel processor and 9400M.

Mac Mini was just a temporarily project for me, it's not a full-fledged media center no matter how I look at it, gonna sell it in 2 months when I'm moving.

that's what i read elsewhere too yeah. for 600$ (minimum) you don't get a remote, you dont have a front side display, no blueray, and on top of it all, it doesnt play flawless 1080p. and i don't really see the advantage of full pc functionality on my tv.. have you?

i could recommment the tvix6500 or the popcorn hour 110. most likely newer models will come out soon thought.

on a side note, connecting the airport extress near your hifi is quite sweet. it has audio out, so i can control itunes sound out on any given speaker in the house (all you have to do is plug-in the airport near your speakers)

We don't. We're the most unproductive people to start with, so attempting to work on homework 2 feet away from each other further exacerbates the situation. Furthermore, it is very difficult to hide the fact I play a 2d spaceship game when my roomie is sitting so close.
