Well the FDA refuses to acknowledge the poison that MSG really is, and actually does endorse it as healthy for you. It encourages companies to pile that crap into food.

Well, the good news is in about 50 years when everyone in America has a life-expectancy of only around 60 or so years, social security will rise back up to normal levels and have a surplus again!!! Then the government can dip their greedy hands back into the fund like they did before (which is how it got depleted in the first place) and use it to spend more on their amazing economic reforms that has bankrupt the country! See, our government really does look out for the nations well being!

      gonna call it here:
there will be a "sweeping reform" of our "public health" system. at least three new gov't agencies will be created. the cost will be at least 500 billion. george bush will be blamed - someone will be blamed for not foreseeing the unforeseeable. no actual progress will be made, and taxes will rise by a small percent.

edit: wow, i just read that apparently the republicans dropped a bunch of funding for pandemic preparedness in the latest round of handouts... meaning the blame game has started. bush is a republican, close enough... but seriously, like that funding would have actually made a difference, the money would still be frozen in congress

hah! apparently, in 2005 bush actually stocked up on a bunch of vaccines and shit (for terrorist-related reasons probably). the CDC recommends two types of meds, and we have enough of em for 50 million people.

so... holy fuck. good... job... george... bush...??

On the flip side of the FDA argument in regards to this issue, they then would be able to control the produce coming in and out of the country and especially push forward the genetic altered vegetation they want everyone to buy into.

Does anyone regulate the validity of stickers on produce that say, for example "our farms don't use growth hormones" or can farms make that statement falsely without any reprocussions?

I can guess the short answer is yes, but what I'm curious is, does anyone really check? Do any of you guys actually know farmers, maybe they could confirm or deny whether someone is actually checking the farms out.

Also, I know this is pretty off topic from Swine flu, so I'll give my thoughts on it: People are over-reacting, I think this isn't as bad as SARS and it seems to be getting as much attention if not more.

Too bad people in the US are getting over it without complications.

So it kills poor brown people. Just like all the other "pandemic" possibilities over the past few years.

I'm with Scuggs, except call me when we can no longer enjoy bacon. I volunteer to take care of these filthy swine overlords and eat all of the infected pigs in a death of epic bacon proportions.

I'm no Doctor, but I believe that new viral strains change in discreet ways each and every time it is transferred from one person to another, making it more and more difficult to develop a reliable vaccination the wider it spreads, making it highly unlikely that this outbreak was caused by a bad batch of pig. Then again, I learned this in beginners biology when I was a freshman like 8 years ago, I'm sure the pros are already on top of this....or are they.
