This is the same sort of oversimplification that really bugs me. It's the old "$50 million dollars for an overhead projector!"-speak that's nowhere near the mark. The LHC has the possibility of making some really game-changing discoveries, and it gets simplified down to "duh, big piece of expensive junk."

Do you know why dinosaurs went extinct? Like, for realsie reals? I want an exact date. Science isn't exact, but it's our best estimate.

For the record, as a computer scientist, no REPUTABLE people said Y2K was going to cause armageddon. And while the 2012 thing is most likely a non-story too, that's not to say that we don't need to take a look at our aging electrical infrastructure and update where necessary.

And I understand that, at least partially. But there comes a point that you have to realize that you aren't ever going to be "the expert" on everything. There are facts out there that you will probably never understand the underpinnings of--are you prepared to just write them off because you don't understand them?

      ''just a theory.''

This statement really is persuasive to many people reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the word ''theory'' in a scientific context.

It does not imply fundamental disagreement; quite the contrary. The word theory is applied only to an idea supported by facts and analyses of those facts by experts on the subject.

My ridiculous brother-in-law loves Rush Limbaugh. He also likes:

            1) Hand-censoring Avril Lavigne CDs for his 14 year-old daughter. (As in, he beeps out HORRIBLE WORDS like "damn".)
            2) Telling his 9 year-old daughter to "take a Midol."
            3) Saying that anyone who wears anything other than closed-toe shoes is "a hippie liberal."
            4) Jesus.

Didn't Jesus wear sandals? At least he does in paintings and movies.

Everyone knows Jesus wore penny loafers and hated Mexicans.

EDIT: Did I mention he loves to hate Mexicans? And won't travel to countries where English isn't the "native" language?

Man, my brother-in-law is a huge dick.

And with Rush, we have spin-off's such as Michelle Malkin. She makes Rush look liberal.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

The media is simply a reflection of society. No media personality would exist unless their show generates good ratings, which in turn generates advertising income.
Reruns of The Lawrence Welk Show still get higher ratings than MTV and VH1 put together. Do we start threads slamming dead Lawrence Welk because we don’t like that type of music or do we simply accept the fact that the show exists because there is a large demographic who response to that type of music?

If there is anger to be redirected it might be best to direct it to those in society who support these show/personalities instead of those who are smart enough to take advantage of it in their careers, as they laugh at you on the way to the bank.

Ugh, and have you seen The Ed Show on MSNBC? Probably on the same level as Rush but on the other side.

anyone who denies that the earth is getting warmer, aka global warming, is a complete idiot. If you're capable of finding your way to this forum you're capable of reading a simple graph showing the earth getting warmer.

the only argument you can contest is that WE, as humans, are accelerating the process.

One thing you can count on: we're not doing anything to reverse the process. Well one more: even the natural process of global warming could be catastrophic.

                                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_weather_records

Actually the record temperatures and dates show more of a cooling trend since temperatures were recorded. If anything Earth is about to enter a mini ice age but not because of global warming, because of the natural cycle of the planet heating and cooling.

                                http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517035,00.html

oh, and global warming would actually cause a natural abundance in crops, even a slight amount, maybe we should do more to destroy the environment or else you are going to end up feeling bad because of the starving African kids instead of ice not melting.

Anyways "danknuggetz" whomever you are, there is a reason why Al Gore and the rest of the idiots who believe in what used to be called "global warming" changed what they said to "Climate Change", its because weather trends pointed out that temperatures were dropping not rising. It is really amazing how you can't figure out that hes holding on to threads trying to hold this ignorant theory above water when he has to change the name of it when it doesn't do what he expected.
