I'm just curious what you are taught about while you grow up. I don't really care how much you care. It's interesting how different countries learn different parts of history.

Just cuz I like to laugh doesn't mean I dont care, shit I'm getting a masters im history, but isn't it interesting how us Americans are taught that ww2 was a "just war" in which we were blameless and the Germans were characterized as being totally evil? This sort of history is not very true when you hear about the Dresden bombings for instance, and it is held up by movies like Indiana Jones and Street Fighter where it is perfectly normal to see an evil Nazi trying to rule the world. Yes, they were definately an evil force, but another thing we didn't learn about was how us Americans had committed the same offense, genocide to the Native Americans, but we carried it out much further than the Nazi's were able to. So, if anyone else gets involved in this thread, I would be interested to know what perception of America was offered in history classes. Did you learn about Dresden and Tokyo fire bombings? Were they justified? Dropping napalm all over Vietnam and Combodia was pretty much the same thing, but unlike in ww2 it was frowned upon.
Edit: Oh nycle doesn't care, i see. Well, tough to care about something you know so little about.

But if you want to know how perceptions of America were taught to me in general, it was basically like this:
WWII: Good.
Vietnam: Pretty bad. I dare to say even more so than Ho Chi Minh and his gang.

If you're talking about Canada's general involvement in WWII, of course we learned a lot. We had over 1 million soldiers involved in WWII in a country of 10 million people. We had one of the largest merchant marine forces in the world. We lost 4000 soldiers in the failed Dieppe raid which lay the groundwork for D-day 2 years later. We were one of the 5 main units in D-day (2 brit units, 2 US units, 1 cdn unit). We liberated Holland. We were also involved in the war years before the Americans as we joined when Britain joined. There was also a lot of problems with conscientious objectors in Quebec who didn't care about supporting Britain in a war.
Overall Canada had a HUGE part in the war and contributed to the allied forces disproportionately to our size, power and wealth at the time.
And yes we learned about the general things about the war, such as the network of alliances, the rise of Nazi Germany, Stalin's pact with Hitler, the problems from the Treaty of Versailles, the evacuation at Dunkirk, Blitzkreig, and so on.
What we really didn't learn anything about was the war in Asia aside for the fact that we interred Japanese-Canadians in concentration camps.Epinephrine's History of Trench Wars:
