so, I'm pretty sure we have at least a couple of skateboarders around here.

Now, I just recently started skateboarding and I want to buy myself a cool skateboard that I can showoff to my friends because boards are probably a lot cheaper and cooler in us and the more famous boards are a lot cheaper!

So what I need info on is:

- Which board or parts should I use for a beginning skater and where should I buy it from, good online shops, etc. etc.

my price class is about 80-140$ and if I assemble my own board i'll probably go to 150-180$

Wheels: Spitfire or Bones, really doesn't matter just get the size that you like best. Bones makes good bearings, but I've been out of the game for like 8 years so this may be outdated (I doubt it though).

This, except I'd get an Element Deck. They're cheap and break easily, but any deck you get is going to break if you skate it enough. At least an Element deck is cheap to replace and will last a marginal amount of time. Definitely get abec 7's, or above with bearings. I too haven't skated in a few years, but as best I remember, I had Spitfire 35 mms, an Alien Workshop deck that was light and easy to flip, Bones bearings and Tensor number 9's. Destructo makes good trucks, just don't go for Independent. They're overrated and way too goddamn heavy to get off the ground.

Makes me want to get back on my board and hurt myself again

ive always used indies. once you get used to the extra weight, the smoothness and strength are awesome. tried a pair of grind kings once and felt like i was riding on tinkertoys.

but yeah CCS has some good prices

longboards are fun for about a month until you realize that you will never leave the ground (though i've seen some sick vert longboarding)

a deck is a deck, atm i just have a plain CCS deck that i painted myself, as well as the deathwish jim greco board. every skater has 'their' company and i prefer deathwish, though they are a pretty small company and for anything else (shoes, wheels and shit) i use Girl.

as far as wheels/trucks, that really only matters when you get really good, i've never really noticed any particular differences between truck brands, though i do know there are apparently some shitty brands that you shouldn't buy. i can't remember them off the top of my head. i use royal trucks only because i love royal trux (the band), and right now i'm using Girl wheels on both boards but i'm gonna put these on the deathwish board soon.

i do want the dinosaur jr board pretty bad, though the one at the local shop is an 8 and i ride 7's. (smaller the board, the easier it is to pop, especially for beginners)



do you have a local skate shop? they are a great place to start. pro tip: ride your board. alot. once you get a feel for it, everything else comes pretty naturally.

Uh, if I had to try to explain it without showing you..

The first thing (pasta, especially): stay on your toes. Learn to balance on em. To ollie, get a good push or two, and keep your feet squared up, as well as your body. Meaning, stand on the board with both feet straightened out perpendicular to the board, as well as your shoulders.

As you ride, slide your rear foot to the lip. When you're ready... Jump? It's hard to explain. It's like a one-two motion... Pop your front foot up as you kick down with your rear foot. Not quite at the same time, you'll get the hang of it. Be sure to keep your balance forward. Slide your front foot up as you're in the air, towards the front of the board.

If you do it right, you'll land with both feet somewhere in the middle of the board.

One thing to keep in mind: don't look down. If you look at your feet, you'll never land it.

I cannot stress enough: keep your feet squared. If you don't, and you twist your feet or move them in any direction besides straight up or down, the board will rotate, as if you are doing a shuvit.

Ask someone to show you, or youtube, an ollie. Make sure to note the one-two foot pop and the posture of the shoulders.

Some people learn by standing on it... I can't pop an ollie while not moving, I gotta be in motion. Anyways, that's the best way I can think to explain it.
