Disney's audience is not everyone, they wouldn't need to buy Marvel if they had that kind of dominance. Acquisition of Miramax was in 1993. Miramax had a networth of only $70 million. No one really knew who they were. What's different now is that the acquisition of Marvel was a bigtime deal. Marvel is no little company, they alone were bought for $4B. That's saying something. Now people will try to mentally forge disney characters WITH famous Marvel Characters, it's just something that will be hard to do.
This IS something new with disney because they are dealing with a new consumer base, and a firmly established corporation.
