insults like "gay" and "retarded" need to stop
I saw how the last thread like this ended, I'm putting this, and first of all, be mature...this is a really important topic. And needs to be addressed.
Regardless of how one feels about the sensitivity or oversensitivity of another person, using an expression such as "gay" or "retarded" can have a devastating impact on a person, and make the user of that word look incredibly ignorant of others lifestyles or disabilities. A generation of people believing this is acceptable is only breeding a generation of people that do not understand the definition of respect.
Think from another person's point of view for a moment. Plenty of intellectually disabled people understand they are different, and understand what the word retarded means. So using this word, or gay, as an insult reinforces the idea there is something wrong with being disabled or homosexual. Just imagine what a young gay person feels when their peers are constantly using their lifestyle as an insult.
I'm not pleading for the internet and world to live as PC as possible, but these are two examples of clearly crossing a line. Racial slurs are not generally tolerated in today's society, so let's keep progressing.
