  • Photo Hosting Web Sites ?

well i'm going to go through some of my pictures that have built up over the past year and want to put them online so i was wondering what is a good site for a newbie like me ?

i tried flickr cuase a friend has it and i'd heard of it but you needed a yahoo account which pissed me off, so i created a yahoo account just for flickr and promptly uploaded a picture left it for months and don't have a clue what i used to sign up to it :/ so fuck that, new site.

i've signed up to Zooomr cuase my half assed google search said it was free storage / uploads with little restrictions for free users

but does anyone have a better one ? basicaly i'm not a photographer or even an amateur photographer, just want a place online to host my pics into albums and shit without them getting deleted or meagre resolution limits etc but also i don't want to pay cuase i probably won't use it a lot

so if anyone has any advice or experience before i get round to uploading them too zooomr that would be appreciated

    Cheers

www.photobucket.com just make a username and password and you can create and maintain albums as well as upload multiple files at once. it's all free

www.imageshack.us has a similar system in place too. just create a username and password and you can do the same stuff.

      I like photobucket

You could also always just use deviantart, there are no requirements for putting your stuff up there.

Don't go for flickr (I have a pro account since 3 years). It's only good if you want to share your pictures around a community. And you said you are not a profesionnal or amateur photographer.

In your case, I would go for Picasa. It has improved a lot. If you have a gmail account, don't ask.. go for Picasa. And I saw that it's only 5$ per year for a paid-account.

And for the rest.. photobucket is lame and imagehost/imageshack should be used only for a quick upload. And deviantart is not the place to store photos..

You can still use Deviantart to store photos, whether it's the place or not. It's just not private! ^_^

cheers Jerome thats very generous , but i'm just looking for a mainstream site i can direct my family and friends to my photo's for ease of use. I'm also going to try and get my sis to post up her pictures but she isn't very internet savvy so better i try some of the mainstream ones then walk her through it

not going to use photoucket since it's owned by Rupert "evil" Murdoch and also

given he plans to charge for online newspaper access i wouldn't be surprised if that gets worse.

i do use image shack when i want to quickly host something i don't care about but would rather something more permanent for this.

i do have a google account although i never used it but i still have my details so i'll try out picasa but it will take me a while so if anyone has experience of other sites i'd be interested to hear what they thought.

I was going to use Picasa but there was something in their terms about using your photos for promotional purposes that I didn't like. I don't know it's any better anywhere else.

Windows Live Photo Gallery isn't half bad. I'd go with either that or Picasa.
