America's biggest goal is to one day be as advanced as Canada, this is a huge step in that direction.

That sounds pretty good except for the fact that Canada cannot come close to qualifying as "advanced" and that goal requires us taking huge steps down from where we are, so this was a very good start.

Buried somewhere in the current events is the health care issue but it didn’t feel like this was about health care, it was about politics. Obama set the ‘chicken in every pot’ expectations, spoke strongly about transparency, and the American public bought into all of it.

The ‘doesn’t matter what your constituents want, do what is right for the country’ message from Obama should have sent a wakeup call to people. Doesn’t matter what country you live in, when your leaders start telling you that your opinion doesn’t matter and that they know better than you, warning bells should be going off in your head. Again, the American public sat mostly quiet.

The bill for all of this is coming, there is no free lunch. Americans shouldn’t worry about being fooled by Obama and finding out that he is cut in the same backroom lawyer mold as every other politician out there, they should worry about being fooled twice.

That's exactly what politicians should be doing. Because when it comes down to it, most people are dumber than a rusty nail and have no clue what is best for them, let alone the country.

For instance, if we take Roy Jenkins from Britain, he was seen as an elitist, someone that didn't listen to the people. However he was responsible for reforming Britain, getting rid of laws against homosexuality, abortion and divorce and ended the death penalty. Much of the public and press hated that he did this, yet he did it because it was right for the country (yeah kthx, it's your worst nightmare and you can try and troll this post all you want, I won't respond).

Thing is, about 99% of the people fear change, they always think change is bad and they will always resist. But that is not always in the best interest of the country. I'm not saying politicians are always right and I'm not saying that during their campaign they should be saying: I'll lower taxes!! So they get voted in and then proceed to increase taxes x1000. But Obama has done exactly what he said he would do (well ok, as far as I understand the republicans still fucked the bill over, but still).

tl;dr: People are retarded and don't know what's best for them, this is where politicians come into play.
