Erm it depends what dentist you go to, not trying to scare you but some dentists don't knock you out, some dentists inject you with some new version of Novocaine. And then you sit there and they drill at your tooth and rip it out, and even though it is numbed you can feel absolutely everything he is doing in the surrounding tissue from pressure etc. And the smell of him sawing through your teeth is absolutely ungodly. Of course its been awhile thankfully since I have had a root canal and now I have a much better dentist who probably doesn't do such barbaric practices. Hope you don't have socialized medicine, enjoy.

My experience is similar to warks. I got injected with novocaine and there was only 2 bad parts, the first when they do the first initial drilling, and the second when he injected some liquid stuff in the tooth about 1/2 way through. I felt pain throughout my entire jaw. It was weird sitting there and watching him grab about 20 different files and filing my tooth. Still need to get a crown.

Yep, I had my wisdom teeth taken out (obviously not a root canal), and they just injected me w/ some Novocain stuff and I was awake and aware the entire time they pulled my teeth from my face.. all 4 wisdom teeth in the same visit.... I mean it wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't swallowing all that blood. Well enough talk from me, ENJOY!

This. I got a gum graft and they just injected me with Novocaine. I was awake for the whole cutting a chunk out of my gums, cutting out another one, and then sewing one where the other one was. It wasn't painful per se, it was just weird because I knew what they were doing and that it should hurt. And yeah, swallowing all the blood was the worst.

I think I got the novocaine and laughing gas when i got my wisdom teeth taken out. Didn't feel anything. My socialist medicine sucks .
