  • STFU Obama

Obama plans a national address later Tuesday on the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history. On a trip to Mississippi and Alabama on Monday, he assured residents that the government will "leave the Gulf Coast in better shape than it was before."

The people in Alaska can tell Obama first hand he is full of shit on this issue. Just turn a rock over on the Alaskan Coastline anywhere that the Exxon spill had hit and you still find oil.

This is as bad as the rhetoric he spewed during his lengthy presidential campaign. Things will never be back to normal and or better. He should bet his own life on this situation if he is so sure of himself.
On February 10, 1999, the Alaska Wilderness League released a new report declaring Prince William Sound's wildlife and ecosystem unrecovered. As the report points out, "the Office of Technology Assessment (has) estimated that cleanup has recovered 3 to 4 percent of the spill. Substantial contamination...and depressed population...of wildlife persists."

In the 1989 spill, crude oil spread across Alaska's coastal seas covering 10,000 square miles, an area the size of Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, and 25 Washington, D.C.s combined! Within a week, currents and winds pushed the slick 90 miles from the site of the tanker, out of Prince William Sound into the Gulf of Alaska. It eventually reached nearly 600 miles away from the wrech, contaminating 1,500 miles of shoreline -- about the length of California's coast.

"I am satisfied that tanker traffic to and from Port Valdez and operation of an oil port there will not cause any significant damage to the marine environment or to fisheries interests."
    L.R. Beyon, British Petroleum
    speaking for Alyeska in 1971

We have the proof of what will be for the future for wildlife and fish habitats, as well as the industries that for generations that made a living from the fishing industry, not to leave out the Hotels and vacation resorts along the gulf.

Not to bitch and bitch, but after hearing Obama make another stupid ass comment that it will be better than it was before the spill is just bullshit. Oh well.....lame duck in office, who is gonna be next? Perhaps we can get Michelle to take over...frankly I think she is smarter.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

you can't really say something like, "I'll do the best I can to clean up the spill."

the media will have a hayday no matter what you say, but more-so on this. And especially if you say this, then the people will have more doubt in him than if he said it will be better than before.

so there's no real argument. if he had said I'll do the best I can to clean up the spill, there'd most likely be someone else complaining about how his words can't be trusted. :\

Better if he said, as a leader & president, "we will exhaust all means to clean up this mess" rather than "government will leave the Gulf Coast in better shape than it was before."

That's is just bullshit. Wyy even say anything at all? To me, that is a promise that can not be held by anyone and frankly I find it to be idiotic for a supposed intelligent man to say something of this nature when we have the past to prove this a bullshit statement.

His advisors are complete idiots and in noting they are all Clintonites from the past...oh and btw, whatever happened to that campaign promise of bringing in all new people to his admin rather than washington re-treads all of which are from the Clinton Admin?

Change is not something you can believe in....LOL

No...not pissed, just amazed. Am on an ergo keyboard as well, of which I am not use to...sorry for spelling errors getting use to it though.

What pisses me off is the idiot statement that was made and in noting the Government will clean it up means we as tax payers will pay for it. Will BP get off without losing their profits? We shall see.

Plus on another note, I have not posted often, especially a rant for quite some time. It's all good.

fannie and freddie need more bailouts, the economy is beginning to sink, unemployment's up... the keynesian pipe dream is over, and it's looking like more bailouts won't work, and so the solution is to focus entirely on the oil spill. so let the dude have his fun.

the thing that amazes me is the $75 million liability cap. it's as if hugh heffner came up to you and said "hey, you can throw a party in my mansion this weekend, but if you fuck it up, you will be responsible for damages... for a maximum of $100". i'd burn that motherfucker down.

This reminds me of the national health insurance they want for everyone. On basic medical needs it seems quite fine, but if you are diagnosed with let's say brain cancer and with hospitalization and treatment you will extend your life maybe 4 - 6 months...but without the treatment you will die in 2 months...the insurance comapnies are not forced to pay and uphold your policy. They will get a fine for not covering you at say $20,000.00, but the cost to keep you in a hospital and recieve treatment would perhaps be greater than the fine, perhaps over $200,000.00. As an insurance company I would rather take the fine and hope you die...cheaper that way and much much more profitable for them.

the worst is the media because we are supposed to depend on them for some sort of truth where obama is obv just being a politician, but i always see things like "it could cost 20 billion" or "it could be til late autumn til it is eventually cleaned up." the thing is still leaking oil right now, it will be til august if we are lucky, and they are saying the worst possible scenario is 20 billion and late autumn everything will be totally clean. I got to say, my own interpretation is that this is the worst thing to ever happen on earth, by a long shot.

                    here's my worst case scenario.

the incredible pressure of oil and gas coming out has blew the original well and begun going outside the casing. the 14" diameter original well is by now twice that size and growing. gas and oil have begun seeping through the sea bed itself, showing complete instability of the sea floor. Eventually, the pressure of the sea floor will match and overtake the pressure coming out of the reservoir. At this time, water will begin to seep into the reservoir, which will by this time be somewhat empty due to oil and gas loss. Water will enter the reservoir and this will cause it to collapse. This will be nature's way of closing the bore. Unfortunately, this being the second largest reservoir in the world discovered to date, the sea floor collapsing will cause a tsunami. This tsunami will be large enou8gh to cover almost the entire state of Florida with oil, gas, and high industrial dispersant, making it uninhabitable for years, including what ever part of the coast gets wiped out as well. The 1000 mile long and 3 mile wide plume of oil is now getting into the ocean currents and will affect the entire world's oceans.

20 billion? try 20 trillion. late autumn clean up? try late autumn of 2030.

one thing i will also predict, this blatant lying, with quotes from BP CEo of "we will clean up every drop of oil" (impossible), this rhetoric will change over night. One day we will wake up, everyone in USA will know its a fucking shit storm and the media will be like it always was a shit storm and they never tried to downplay it.

Worst thing on earth by a longshot? Pretty sure the atomic bombs & the holocaust were. But as for harming the ecosystem, yes. Its the worst thing that happened to earth, not on it.

Got to say, my feeling is after a few years we will look back and agree that a nuke bomb would be less devastating. Radiation ain't fun, but the blast is a one time thing, it kills a lot of things, radiation kills a lot more, but after a few years you got people living in Nagasaki again. No one or fish will be living in these areas for much longer is my guess. It's too early to tell, and this has never happened before. The Valdez Oil spill, the one that we have cleaned 3% of the oil from, was one ship. This oil spill releases 4 of those ships' worth of oil a day (if you go by BP estimates which everyone in the world agrees are underestimated). And nothing much going on in Alaska, where as millions of people depend on Gulf for food. But here is my greatest fear I think. When the day comes that the government admits the leak is out of control, they will go into ultra control mode and close down the affected areas to everyone for our safety. If they close it to everyone, you got 1/3 of the country depending on Mississippi River trade routes, close them or even slow them and you got a world of hurt.

Oh you gonna edit in the holocaust card Xog? Play fair man.

I blame the ties between corporation "special interests" and government which began around say 1871. We got a agency which gives out these oil rig grants and they just literally gave them out without any type of investigation as to how to manage a 5000 foot deep well leak. Then we got the media and BP and gov't all working together to minimize the problem, and we don;t hear about the people who can't build sand dunes to protect the beaches cuz the gov't ain't giving them permits. Then you got Obama with red white and blue photo op nets standing in front of spill with arm sleeves rolled up likes hes doing something, bush puts on same costume for katrina, the working man on the site costume. SICK OF ALL THE LIES DA1.

Thank god for internet and youtube or we would know nothing about anything.

I am not blaming Obama for the mess itself, but for the idiotic lies that even a child can see thru when he spews how it will be better than it was before the spill. Come on! really? The guy is a great orater, perhaps he could have given a better comment than the rhetoric he told the press.
