some of those seem like pretty loaded statements, but if some others are true that is unfortunate.

In other words, being born on these lands is nothing to be proud of because you didn't accomplish a damn thing. If you were born in another country and went through their public school indoctrination process, you'd be prone to their nationalism.

If an immigrant boast such claims, then his/her pride has to do with the adversity he/she overcame to move to another country. It has nothing to do with the country he/she decided to move to. In other words, a person can move to any country in the world and still experience the same pride. So, specific geographical location has nothing to do with one's pride. So, being proud of your specific geographical location is just nonsense.

People are just going through the motions like a mouse that gets excited when the bell rings because it means food.

4th of July relates to beautiful women in bikinis, BBQ, fireworks, and alcohol (even on Sunday) -- which are all fun to be around and experience. But, it's not limited to America.

I mean, are you saying you're proud that you can gorge yourself with hotdogs and alcohol? Because, needless to say, taking pleasure in food and getting drunk is something everyone can experience anywhere in the world. You don't go and say, "I'm proud to be at this baseball game because I can get hotdogs and beer." Or, "I'm proud to be an Astros fan because I get hotdogs and beer."

Bottom line here, being American doesn't grant you special abilities that allows you to experience women, booze, bbq, and fireworks.

So, why is that association constantly being made here as if it's limited to this country alone? And why is everyone getting all pissed off because I'm objectively questioning you for making such associations?

(And before anyone says something, don't be so daft to think I'm questioning why you like women.)

It's not as if you go to another country and wave that particular nation's flag that women, booze, bbq, and fireworks all of a sudden becomes unavailable to you. Such things are available in every country, even 3rd world countries. There might be an issue of convenience, but not when you compare like to like.

So, why are you waving that flag around?
one thing that makes me sad when dealing with anarcho-capitalists is the ironic ignorance of the human condition. you spend all this time waxing poetic about individualism and freedom, and yet any expressions of individualism which do not size up to your logical conclusions is rendered nonsense. a little less ayn rand & glenn beck, a little more murray rothbard & frederic bastiat, please!

the american revolution was a brilliant experiment. it was a first. it was the first time that the state was rejected as an eternal leviathan and made way for the brilliant thinkers who could, for the first time, envision society and the state as two different things and make a case for the individual's ultimate sovereignty. they may have ultimately designed a flawed system, but it was a valiant attempt and the one thing they did preserve is the streak of individuality and love of liberty that still has an impact today.

you shouldn't tell someone from the South that being proud of one's geographic location is nonsense. well really, you shouldn't tell anyone that, because it is nonsense. being proud of some abstract notion like our federal government is nonsense, but being proud of your culture, your city, your state - it's all part of being human. it's what makes your magic anarcho-capitalist society work.

I only wish I would see more individualism in this country. Too many people that have to be on this or that side of a spectrum. Nobody can think for themselves anymore.

I figured I'd have to walk you through this one. Thankfully at least Jerome got it. You go around to a bunch of threads saying "STATISTS ARE THE PROBLEM" much like Hitler went around Germany saying "JEWS ARE THE PROBLEM". Hijacking discussions to spout your tangentially related rehetoric? Congratulations on taking that one right out of the statist playbook! You should probably stick to that though because your analogies are awful :|

Do you respect people that say "I like Easter because of the candy"? While that's all well and good, if it's what you're focusing on you missed the point completely. I don't care what I sound like to you or if you respect me because I don't even think you understand what I'm trying to get at here.

If someone gave you a winning lottery ticket would you celebrate? You didn't accomplish anything. Actually though, there is a lot to be proud of. America is not some nebulous external entity, it is "We The People" so any contribution, large or small is part of what makes America. I welcome others to be proud of their country; I'm pretty sure everyone can find SOMETHING to be happy about.

So you can only like a country if you used to be in a different one? I'll grant you that immigrants may appreciate America more, but there's no reason a natural-born citizen can't like it as much. If all you consider countries to be are lines on a map then you're glazing over the much more important cultural aspects.

Your straw men are killing me, but I'll address them anyway. Since when is it a rule that you can only celebrate things that other people don't have? You're also confusing what we're celebrating about with how we're celebrating it.

There are lots of things to be proud of America for even if you aren't American. It used to stand for liberty, to many people it still does, but the last 50 years of our foreign diplomacy has just sucked so much that Tagmor forgot what there is to be patriotic about.

Funny how your artificially-induced patriotism blinds you to the fact that the U.S will go down as one of the most heinous civilizations in human history.
You are like the Germans in the 1940s: Straining to smile as you frantically wave your flag in an attempt to subdue the stench drifting in from the deathcamp just outside of town.
