When will we be rid of the Abrahamic religions? I don't see anything wrong with faith itself, but believing the absolute truth is in some 2000 year old book(s) is just plain madness. Have you even read the piece of shit? I couldn't believe people took it for serious when I read it. I have yet to read the holy Qur'an but I'm pretty sure it contains the same amount of crap, if not more.

i mean, you can look to the edges of the universe and not find god, but i like to think 'god' is what makes us clumps of atoms self-aware.

Summa, could you provide the definition of "wargarble" because I can't seem to find it in any dictionary. And, taunting me while accussing me of trolling is rather vain.
But yea, there is no reason for anyone to assume there is a point of origin except when given a specific pretext. For example: When were you born? When was Earth "born?" When was the Universe "born?"
Nobody is born omniscient or fully developed. Yes, all experiences/ phenomena can be explained, otherwise why ask questions?Originally posted by Jerome Scuggs View Postno for real though, tigron-x:
how do you account for human 'irrationality', and other human behavior which defies logic? or can it all be logically explained?
"Nothing" is such a horrible word. Zero represents a holding point. Absence of all current structures is not "nothing," but rather a void. There is always something. A void is something.Originally posted by Kontrolz View PostTigron, the problem with that logic is that it's... logic.
Logic is a cause/effect structure. If "God" exists, it is infinite or an infinite series of "God"s. At some point either something came from nothing which cannot be understood using logic. Or, what exists is infinite which cannot be understood using logic because it means it never began and will never end.
There is only a paradox when you assume there is a point of origin.Originally posted by Kontrolz View PostYou can always ask, "what came before that?" or "what's that made up of?". Logic is great at finding those answers but it can never resolve the paradox of existence. There will always be room for "God".
That's not what I said.... (more below)Originally posted by Kontrolz View PostYour generalization that agnostics call the unknown god is just flat out wrong. I call the unknown... the unknown. I don't assume it is or is not anything.
This is where you lose me. The moment you put up a term you've ascribed properties. You are referring to something specific. What are you referring to when you use that term?Originally posted by Kontrolz View PostThat being said, God can't actually "exist", at least not in any way we could ever know. God would have to be outside of cause and effect and so he would be outside of science.
So you can play the language game anyway you want, you can say that since god can't "exist" at least in any way that we can know then god doesn't exist. Or you can say maybe there is some other type of existence outside of what we can comprehend (btw obviously the word exist is wrong here but we don't have a word/idea for what god would "be").
You can't know either way. If you can't know then you're an agnostic.
No, it's a misstep to claim there are no absolutes. You contradict yourself here completely. Looking through Saturn's gravitational field for a tea cup is expressing a desire for empirical evidence. Above you express it is impossible to know, i.e. gather such information. "God is outside of science."Originally posted by Kontrolz View PostThere is a tea cup orbiting Saturn. Odds are it would be impossible for a tea cup to be up there and so the gut reaction is to say that's wrong. But... you can't KNOW until you've examined every area of space that's within Saturn's gravitational field.
The unknown could be anything, hence "unknown". It's a great misstep to say that the unknown could be anything EXCEPT FOR THIS.
Either you can know of "God" because "God" is real, OR you can't know of "God" because "God" is not real.
If you want to make-up some sort of alternate reality outside our sensabilities, then you will never have evidence of it or be able to provide evidence of it.
So, why even begin accepting the idea as a possibility? Otherwise, what's the null hypothesis? Because, at this point, Sponge Bob could be a real living being.Last edited by Tigron-X; 08-20-2010, 01:36 AM.

I was playing deus ex earlier and something caught my eye.
Something about how computers and technology become the new god for humans because it replaced the need for god which is having something watching over you by having technology knowing everything about you and watching over you.
I mean I know its just a video game but damn thats deep.
Anyways, I believe in god. The other night my wife was making me go to a Jack Johnson concert and the rain chances were like 10% for the day, and ill be damned if after a nice clear day at 7PM right before the concert started the area where the concert was got slammed by a brutal thunderstorm and we had lawn seats. Anyways, I didn't have to go see that fucking hippie singing about trees and shit and even though it was spiteful for me to be so happy about my wife missing out on seeing this fruitcake I still thanked god for it.
But in all seriousness I do believe in god.

like this kind of awe: :shock1:
Your tl;dr is duly noted. You can skip around in the post if you'd like. The "Idea of God" and "Life from life" is probably most pertinent here.
It is extremely logical because... well, people wanted logic.
