I guess we are pulling troops out of Iraq and putting troops in Afghanistan to secure a mineral deposit found with large amounts of lithium.

Lithium being a very important metal in the manufacturing of Batteries.

Batteries being a very important aspect of the new.. Ford Volt.

The minerals found have already been given the ok for mining and distibution to Japanese firms and not the U.S. I wouldn't worry too much about the U.S. having a hand in this Lithium & mineral find.
