Need help with Wordpress/Website

I registered a domain via wordpress in light of it being years since I have done any HTML.

in retrospect, i probably should have not.

I am looking for a theme or a customization similar to this poorly drawn image below.

coding nerds welcome.

did a very quick search for these, but most of them could be adapted to fit the look-n-feel you're trying to accomplish. these are all free themes and most feature a grid-like design. the beauty of wordpress is that it's ridiculously customizable via widgets.

So I got a cool theme, that almost matched what I wanted.

Thing is it rearranges according to your zoom and resolution.

Best viewed at 1600x900 and higher.

sorry, don't have much experience with joomla

never really got into cms's all that much, but i love me some wordpress

I developed two websites with joomla 1.5, one for a small company of ~ 25 people. It's pretty easy and a good way to learn html/css as you go. It's easy enough to develop with little web development experience, and dynamic enough for someone who does to add some extra flare to everything. There are plenty of "extensions" too to give you pretty much whatever extra functionality you need (contact forms, signup/blogging).

And then of course anyone who develops web pages should be a little familiar with image editing software. I'd recommend Gimp 2 because it's free and relatively powerful.

Having said all that, I haven't worked with wordpress so I'm not too familiar. For Joomla, I think you could accomplish what you want to do though. You can install "templates" that are basically predetermined layouts. They can make your page look a bit nicer without you having to do too much. The positions are predefined but if you know how to code a bit, you can add your own and get the exact layout you want.

Wordpress is more for blogs and such Jason. It's also much more limited than what I'm looking for. Thanks for the recommendation though. I'm getting the hang of Joomla too, it's not too hard. I had just initially done some things wrong when I first installed (ex. had an index.html - which screwed up the index.php).

Aside from that there was some other stuff I must have initially did wrong; I just uninstalled it all and re installed. That seems to have fixed my issues and it's working quite nicely now.
