        Re: Questions about Religion

        1. Do you believe that Christianity is being practiced today as Jesus intended for it to be?

-No, religion should not be more than moral guidelines and a source of self-contentment. All too often people take religion as more than that and end up causing much damage to themselves and other people instead of seeking the personal solace that religions are intended for.

        2. Do you believe that two people can disagree and both be right?

-Absolutely, my own beliefs tend to mirror those that practice Unitarian. Essentially that means that I believe most religions have the same foundation, same moral philosophies, and same intention... and that people waste too much time fighting over the differences rather than embracing the similarities.

        3. Do you believe that the Bible contains the Standard for the practice of Christianity?

-I wish more priests/reverends/pastors would preach about real-world application of biblical lessons as opposed to preaching about the events as 100% undeniable truth. Whether or not the events in the bible actually happened, we'll never know. But preaching outside of the context of the bible will help people learn the moral lessons instead of memorizing old folk tales. Plus some of the more ignorant vocal of the christian populace will be forced to think for themselves instead of reciting the same worn down passages over and over again.

        4. Do you believe that the Scriptures contain all things necessary for (eternal) life and godliness?

-No, your own beliefs will dictate that for you. There's no such thing as rules in religion, only guidelines. You set the standards yourself.

        5. Do you believe that the Ten Commandments, as a part of the Law of Moses, are binding today?

-Once again, guidelines... not rules. It's up to each person to decide what situation calls for what action. Sometimes it's necessary to break a commandment, other times it's downright evil on all forms of rational thought.

Anything related to organized religions are just companies and cults in disguise. Join a church and be brain washed, or sit down by your bed and say a prayer to who ever you believe in.. to me that's spiritualality. Christianity wants money. Catholicism (spelling) wants power.

i mean dont get me wrong, to each their own.. but like, my friends friend (who i guess is my friend now) lives in a house full of mormans. he has a mother, a father, and 14 siblings. they are seriously scarey. I sware they are forming a cult. THey sit in their living room for 2 hours every day and read from the bible, talk to each other, some other things. Now, that isnt just being a "family", i mean, im all for family get togethers, but what they do in there is just scarey. Not to mention they wont let me even be in the house while tey do it. "it's family time, please leave"

heh, i think satan is channeling his powers through their father tho. He gives me these scarey looks.. omg

i just think forcing religion on your children is seriously wrong. parents should influence, not force. i mean, ruling with an iron hand and using fear to keep people in line is like, bad :/.

YOU WILL GO TO HELL IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN GOD
OMFG YOU MASTERBATE, GOD IS KILLING A KITTEN WTF.

(i've racked up quite a kitten kill count)

Only religion I truely believe in, even tho I could never live the way they do is Bhudism. (spelling again)

I vacationed at a temple for a week. read alot of books about it, trying to decide where I fit in the scheme of things. Went skinny dipping with them (no I didnt get naked :P).. dunno, they are just so peaceful and accepting. THey accept all forms of religion.. unlike almost every other religion out there. ACTUALLY, i saw a religion that worshiped a guys hampster. Had quite a following. Basically he went through the bible and wrote new things in.

heh, props to you for taking the class.. i couldnt.. i got kicked out of my bible class in 7th grade for telling my teacher animals have souls (in a more direct manner)

          :P

good luck, hope you ace the class. (tell them I'm a heathen and i'm going to hell, but f33r my answers)

oh and worship my cat or you will go to hell.

            Re: Questions about Religion

            1. Do you believe that Christianity is being practiced today as Jesus intended for it to be?

            -No.
Jesus lived in a different society then today. Moral, live-standards are changed. Christianity changed as well.
But I do think people still believe in jesus like it was intend to be.

            2. Do you believe that two people can disagree and both be right?

            -No.
When speaking of right and wrong, you are judging.
Judging means you have to have a (moral) basis.
The arguments that arent the arguments of the basis you use to judge from are the wrong arguments.
eg: only food for 5 people in a bunker, 6 people there.
what would be right according the universal right of humans?
what would be right according to the law of the strongest?

            3. Do you believe that the Bible contains the Standard for the practice of Christianity?

            -No, not at all.
The bible is just a guide, not an accurate map.

            4. Do you believe that the Scriptures contain all things necessary for (eternal) life and godliness?

            -Donnu, what are the scriptures?

according to the bible there aren't NO things necessary for eternal life.
Or you live it in pain or you live it in bliss, but you'll always live.

            5. Do you believe that the Ten Commandments, as a part of the Law of Moses, are binding today?

-The ten commandements are just moral.
Ofcourse aren't they binding today, it all depends how high ones moral is.
some are wise, some are otherwise

1: PolluX> People say I talk too much
1: Louis XV> Dude you seriously need to stfu!

                  1. Do you believe that Christianity is being practiced today as Jesus intended for it to be?

-No. As has been pointed out, the societies that Jesus lived in and those of present are quite different, due to technology, science, and a growing difference in opinion. The general idea or morality sways so much, it's a fallacy to say that the current idea of Christianity is what Jesus had in mind.

                  2. Do you believe that two people can disagree and both be right?

-Yes. Some problems have more than one solution, so why couldn't two people be right?

                  3. Do you believe that the Bible contains the Standard for the practice of Christianity?

-Yes and no. I have read very little of the Bible, and am not much for organized religion in general. However, I do believe certain things written in the Bible are misconstrued to people's individual points of view so that they are no longer serving the original message/intent.

                  4. Do you believe that the Scriptures contain all things necessary for (eternal) life and godliness?

-No. I'm still debating the logicity of heaven/hell, and whether following said scriptures will get me where I want to go.

                  5. Do you believe that the Ten Commandments, as a part of the Law of Moses, are binding today?

-No. I believe that in older days, the reason for such strong belief and devotion to religion was the lack of anything else to trust in. The world was a very dangerous and unpredictable place, however, putting faith in a superior being might provide some sort of security. As it stands today, people no longer require religion alone for that security, and thus, fewer find it necessary to follow the commandments as written.

                    1. Do you believe that Christianity is being practiced today as Jesus intended for it to be?

Yes, not every church out there holds true to this...but there are few that do, and those are ones that should be looked into.

                    2. Do you believe that two people can disagree and both be right?

It only depends on what they disagree about. So Yes.

                    3. Do you believe that the Bible contains the Standard for the practice of Christianity?

No, you have to look to modern revelation for that, wink wink..nudge nudge. The bible however does offer people a path, it shows how to be good to yourself, and good to others...that's basically what most religions want you to know how to do, but people still have much trouble with that. Isaiah goes into some deeper stuff than you think though.

                    4. Do you believe that the Scriptures contain all things necessary for (eternal) life and godliness?

Yes, the bible contains the very basics, if you're LDS, you got the works.

                    5. Do you believe that the Ten Commandments, as a part of the Law of Moses, are binding today?

Yes, they are commandments, the Jews were commanded to obey these, we still have them today...even if Jesus did fulfill the Law of Moses, they're still commandments that should be followed if we want to be good to ourselves, and good to others.

                      1. Do you believe that Christianity is being practiced today as Jesus intended for it to be?

-If Jesus was a crazy person who forced some dude to write a story that would turn everyone into his slaves then yeh, why not.

                      2. Do you believe that two people can disagree and both be right?

-No, I believe there is only one right, although there may be some "nearly-rights".

                      3. Do you believe that the Bible contains the Standard for the practice of Christianity?

-Yes I guess it does, aint that the whole point ?

                      4. Do you believe that the Scriptures contain all things necessary for (eternal) life and godliness?

-I don't believe in eternal life but the Scriptures may be a good read :/

                      5. Do you believe that the Ten Commandments, as a part of the Law of Moses, are binding today?

-binding.. hmmm.. to true religious types yeah I suppose... but not everyone believes.

                      -Mike

Religion is a great way to control people and it has been used as such over our history.

There is very little need for such things these days when the media does such a good job at controling what we think.

I find it quite intriguing that many of you believe the Bible to be incorrect, etc. when you haven't even read it. I'm thouroughly impressed by your extreme foresight.

As for the whole "brainwashing" thing, I also find it funny that you gain these notions through peers pounding them incesently into your heads. You can't honestly tell me for one second that you were the first person to ever think that.

Just as a side note, props to people like Gerbz (and others, I just remember seeing his name) who put a well-organized and defended beliefs. While I don't agree with all, they're respected...

                            Yeah, I'm done.

A god point on your brainwashing comment Reclusion. Keep in mind though...that much of our daily activities, habits, thoughts, emotions...etc are based upon what and who's around us. We are a mixture of many ideas, no one person is 100% original and creative, we all get our ideas and thoughts from somewhere.

I'm gonna chalk this next comment up to Bill Hicks.

Isn't it funny how many religious people say that the Bible is the true word of God? If this is so...then why do we change it? Granted, there are mistakes in it due to mistranslation, but we still find people changing the wording of the Bible today. It's just like a man going "I think what God meant to say was...."

If there's something qwerky in the bible, you can always chalk that one up to mistranslation. Go get your own set of the original Hebrew text for just $35.99! That's right, read the word of God and learn how to be more Christ-like and God-like in this wonderful bound edition of the Hebrew Bible! Not a word changed! Sweet deal.
