yeah I don't really believe all the hype that the news stations are producing, but I did watch one report that tried to explain that it really doesn't matter if this is a hurricane or a tropical storm, the fact is we're going to get an insane amount of water. The winds coming at us in my area of New York (and I'm by the water) are going to be between 65-80 MPH. In the city with all the buildings, that's going to be between 45-60 MPH, but in higher elevations, the wind speed will be going faster and is expected to be between 70-90 MPH. This is way more than enough speed to cause hundreds of windows to be blown out due to high pressures on streets between buildings.

Also, I live in a fucking basement. I literally have my couch on cinder-blocks, and will be unplugging everything from electrical sockets if I need to leave.

Heck, just last week we got a bad storm and in our area there was lots of basement floods due to the sewage being backed up. It's not that the water comes through the windows due to low windows - but the fact that if there is enough water pressure in the sewage system, it actually gets pushed up through our toilets and shower drains and floods the houses with raw fucking sewage. So.. there is a lot of reason for me to be worried at the moment.

That's what happens when you have clay sewers 2 feet below ground. You might have an existing sewer problem that you should have looked into
