A) This might be the best thread title in Trench Wars history, in my opinion.
B) Rudy - your command of a very small, specific kind of rap is admirable, but you lost me when you assumed it applies to every fucking thing under the sun. Maybe you were joking; I can't tell. But it's comparable to me taking the top-twenty Billboard hits and assuming all rock or pop music beneath it works similarly. I may not dig the musical stylings of Justin Timberlake, but I'm willing to see past that and understand that he doesn't speak for everyone in his field. If you had said "I don't like beats," or "I don't really like spoken-word style music" then I could understand. I don't like trance, but that's because I don't really like loops or a lack of lyrics. But what you're talking about has nothing to do with the basic foundation of rap. It just doesn't. Try listening to some decent shit for a change, and you'll realize that you just bastardized an entire genre because you see gold chains and thongs every time you flip past BET.

Alright. Let me make my problem with this genre more specific.
I don't like sampling. The exception is when the sample is modified to a degree that it is unrecognisable. The concept of having entire songs built by taking a sample, looping it, and then adding vocals over the top doesn't strike me as very creative. This may not apply to the underground rap scene. But if underground is so good, why is it still underground?
Sure there's more to rap than Emineminem and his dysfunctional entourage that churn out song after song in the hope of keeping their careers alive. But that's all I'm seeing. Any great rock band can have an old song played decades later and not suffer from the, "This is so last century" syndrome. When I see the music videos for any hiphop, rap, R&B song, all I see are narcissists masturbating in their self image. And people are gullible enough to buy it, until the next prefab hit comes out?
What is the point of battling? Is it supposed to be musically entertaining in any way. This is my major concern and the foundation I made my previous post on. What exactly are they trying to prove to themselves? If they want to prove who the bigger badass is, slap their cowardly asses in a ring and get them to slug it out. I'm sure you can't even define battling as music. You can call a choir musical because they actually sing, but without any instrumental accompanyment, battling appears to be just talking in rhymes. And there's no way in my lifetime you'll ever find me in the predicament of enjoying that.
The vocalists I prefer to listen to have a real talent with their voice. They may not have the capacity to shoot words out of their robotic mouth like a sub-machine gun but they can change how they sound in a heartbeat from soft caressing lullabyes to hard, high pitched screams, all in the one song. I'm not trying to be hypocritical by now defending my genre as you did yours. Instead I just praying that people would stop driving past with rap blaring out of their car as if they had a right to force it down my throat.
P.S I have no idea what the hell BET is, but I don't need to walk past it to see gold chains and thongs.

BET by the way is Black Entertainment Television, a cable statiion that plays a lot of rap music and also, as some critics say, does a disservice to racial politics by catering to stereotypes and commercialism.

RudyH you basically got more specific about the same shit you said before. I agree with you about your points in main stream rap and hip hop.
Underground rap is only called that because it plays different from the rest of the "popular rap" such as, eminem, 50 cent, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, all that shit.
Battling is basically a contest, its how good can you freestyle, all about word play. Most of the best free style rappers are very well educated and have a large vocabulary. Some of you geeks might even like it. Check out: eye dea, Living Legends, Slug, Jedi Mind Trix, Wu-Tang, all of that is excellent music. I dont care what kind of music "genre" you listen to.2 time TWLD runner up.
If not a medal, cant I get a Ribbon??
