yeh, if all these publishers stopped following the whole 'Press X or Y/ Tap X or Y to do this' mentality and went back to the drawing board then they might actually produce something good.

i enjoy FPS's, but i've never enjoyed the "chaos" of an FPS. i preferred more organized games - like subspace. but, one of the things i have read about BF3 (or was it MW3?) is that the game will focus on more 'coordination' - infantry being supported by tanks and air, etc. if this is the case, i would love it.

i read an article about a game that came out within the past ~3 years which attempted to do this - when playing online, you had 'squad leaders' who focused on organizing and coordinating, and would pass on commands and info to the actual infantry who would then go and shoot-em-up FPS style. the article was about how the game tanked hard because while people my age and above enjoyed that sort of game, the 16yr olds flooding the server just wanted to spawn, run 10ft, see an enemy, bunny hop, and kill them.

the day i can play an "amphibious landing" map which has an actual, organized amphibious landing will be a great day, not like in battlefield 1942 where one solider hops in an entire landing craft and heads to shore solo, only to be gunned down by the 15 snipers camping on the omaha bunkers

the other side of the discussion we're having is whether we should just outright remove the system altogether.

              so it's either:

not police it at all or remove it entirely

              what'cha think?

i vote remove, it just makes us think about who likes and dislikes us and takes away from actual discussion/conversation creating abilities

at the very least it adds nothing at all, if you like something someone said, make a post and say what you like about it, that's how threads are built, or make a post saying what you don't like about it, fuck facebook's attempt to make us all narcissists

I've never been a fan of Halo, either. I played the first one for PC when it first came out, I never stepped foot online with it (if there even is one for halo 1?). Then Halo 2 came out and thats when all the kids started playing it on consoles. I don't really enjoy playing games on consoles, it's thoroughly frustrating due to the server mechanics in various games.

I also don't like war FPSs like battlefield, because it's just not my style. I'm more of a fragger type of person. Modern Warfare however, tends to step into that category more. I think it's the real guns that puts me off. I just don't see what's so appealing about shooting an M16, when I can just hop in another game and use some weapons like the ASMD Shock Rifle, Bio Rifle, Plasma Gun, Flak Cannon, or Rocket Launcher (that doesn't take 15 seconds to reload every time you fire a rocket). I enjoy the chaotic feeling of the fast-paced environments that are hardcore FPSs.

Also to note, one of the things I dislike very much, is the Aim Assist / Auto Aim for consoles. Half the people playing don't even know it's there, let alone enabled, so they think they're so cool when they look thru the scope of their sniper rifle and the crosshairs are automatically stickied on the enemy. They think their aim is pristine. I'd love to see them play without aim assist. They refer to this as "quick scoping," in reality all it is, is looking thru the scope and then shooting. There is no aim involved. (MW2).

None of the fast-paced games use aim assist on PCs in multiplayer. All the servers automatically disable it if it is enabled (its for single player only).

When I play MW2 and black ops on my console, I have a device that lets me plug in my mouse and keyboard to replace the controller. I have my system hooked up to my PC monitor here, it's great, but there are just so many things wrong with console games. They're dumbed down, made easier for the noobs. Then they think they're good. If/when I do play MW2 and black ops, all I do is snipe because it's so easy. Right click, Left Click - the player is dead instantly. It's just too easy.

I also like the strategy involved in games like UT and Quake. You have to know the map, where everything is, and when all the powerups are going to respawn. You have to keep an eye on the clock, and know the quickest ways to the powerups. That's when the game becomes extremely competitive. Put two players on a map that they know best, and it's like a game of chess, played extremely fast. It's crazy.

I don't get the tap X or Y comment...every game is that way. That's why the buttons are on the controller might as well use them. Console FPS's arent any 'dumber' than PC. You're just using a keyboard and mouse which is way easier than a controller once you're good at it.

leave it the way it is, rarely do people go on dislike sprees (oranje and gran) where they dislike every post in a thread

Graphics and content are toned down/removed on consoles due to the inability to change/update hardware.
Players are given a handicap aim-assist on consoles because thumb-sticks are less precise than a mouse.
Keyboard and Mouse provides better control of the player in games, so it's more competitive. So in a sense, consoles are gimped.

When it comes to competitive play, mouse and keyboard are better than controllers. It's opinionated, mostly unchallenged all over the web, that a master at a controller vs a master of a mouse + kb in 1 game, the PC user will win, hands down.

I know that it is possible for people to like the console controller more, or that they play better with a console controller, but on the average, the PC gamer will have an advantage.

Anyways, enough with controller and mouse talk. I will still continue to use my console for various other things, such as watching movies on my TV while sitting on the couch, or having friends over and gaming. (Coincidentally, I recently had a XBOX LAN party at my house! LOL. My xbox was connected my pc monitor, a friend's to the TV, and two other friends connected to their laptop display. Was an epic day!)

I can't really have a friend sit next to me on my PC and play split-screen (although it's available).

There are things the console is more convenient for than the PC, but when it comes to crunch time, I choose the PC.
