i remember when i first came to ohio, went through cleveland and I saw all the big buildings. "Woah Big Business! This is like factory central!"

you get closer, realize its 1920s style building with broken windows and scratched up paint on the side.

Gund arena was the hottest thing in town, and Ricky Davis was the closest thing cleveland had to Lebron. Dark days, even for Cleveland.

1) you have an interest in playing some of the most underrated golf courses in America. Cheap and amazing. I played 18 in canada, and holy shit you guys need to get your shit together in the etobicoke area.
2) want to try quality local midwestern food for cheap with generally friendly people
3) enjoy hunting
4) buying inexpensive American souvenir-y clothes
5) Cheap hockey tickets

Ask Panda about the whole downtown bar scene. Apparently it's pretty nice.
Definitely come to Columbus if you're looking to get a dose of Midwestern USA.

I went to Cleveland for the first time ever on Monday. Man that place is a shithole, I'll agree with you.

Syracuse and Rochester are fine. New York State is pretty good. I like the fact that the state certifies trades peoples such as mechanics. So lets say I want to sell a car a mechanic needs to check it out - give it the green light. There is some sort of certification to make sure that this person is competent and knows what the fuck they're doing. Wages and standards go up, which gives people "real" jobs, real wages, and ultimately keeps death traps off the road. Michigan trips me out, given its rich history in the car industry. There's no certification or government body overseeing the people who work on your car. One of the best ways to help your economy stabilize itself is not shit on your skilled labour.

There's an overall shortage of mechanics, and given the need in Ontario and Alberta wages will likely rise from $25-30 to $30-50. I have some friends in Michigan who own their own house, which is worth 60-70k but can't find a job to make the mortgage payments. I told them that Canada immigrates hundreds of thousands of people each year, and that given their westernization and english skills they might as well immigrate here. A LOT of money goes into teaching these people english, sending them to school, giving them healthcare, etc. It'd be a fuck lot cheaper to immigrate an American than someone from Asia.

Ohio, well it's not much more than one big scrap yard. It's like Ontario if our government was corrupt and irresponsible. It's overall an unappealing place to be, especially if you're looking for a) a job b) safety c) an entertaining place to live.

Etobicoke is a Toronto suburb (one of the more gritty ones), it's like putting a golf course in Jersey City. You get exactly what you should have expected.

Cheap hockey tickets are always nice, the Leafs suck and the tickets are the most expensive in the league. Leaf fans who purchase tickets need to stop. The team is mediocre, and you're an asshole for paying $10 for American beer in a Canadian city. Buffalo tickets are a quarter of the cost and sell Canadian beer, go fucking figure. The people in Buffalo are actually really nice, they know their city sucks and that a lot of the people there are Canadian trying to save money by using their airport. The local economy depends a lot on the Canadian travelers, and they are more pissed than us about the rigid policies implemented by the American government in regards to foreign travelers. The citizens of Buffalo know that if the process isn't convenient and hassle free for Canadians that we'll stop coming, so stop treating us like fucking Mexicans. Canadians and Americans shouldn't need passports to cross over. I love being drilled about "potentially" working in America while I travel and I feel like saying, "yeah I've come here to steal your non-existent jobs, asshole". Post 911 policies have hindered the local economy, regardless of how you personally feel it has helped your overall safety.

I'm in Florida right now. Yesterday I was in Atlanta. It was fucking cold yesterday. I'd like to live here if there was actual jobs. The state is gorgeous, it's easily one of the best places to visit in America.
