No, lawyers are just another aspect of a deteriorating US economy where we have added endless layers of non-productive leeching upon each other. My point was that US has to be smarter than building an economy that has little productivity of real goods and services. The manufacture of durable goods and its related innovation of new technologies has left this country. Without it we are a country of parasites feeding upon each other, dividing up smaller and smaller pieces of an economy that is a house of cards built upon no real productivity. The lottery (i.e. gambling) and legal industries epitomize this issue.

my neighborhood gas station is circle k and thats how i found out that this was all happening, spent like 1hr in line behind the fattest and rudest people, like the winning ticket was actually in the circle k and these people would stop at nothing to get it.

i 100% agree with eph's OP about the lottery money not actually benefiting education. case in point: Louisiana has both a lottery and casinos, which are white trash bait. so clearly we should have funding for education, instead, our budget is so slim that they might shut down or "merge" the college i attend before i can even graduate.

They need more supervision. I would rather have the government covering ~10% of their uni's operating budgets and regulate even more strictly, than have the cutthroat universities try to fuck me for a mathematically incomprehensible 20% tuition hike.

Similar to what most universities are doing here. State cuts funding by 3%, State School "regretfully and accordingly" hikes up tuition ~9%. Fuck this conservative view of "let them free of da gubmint!". Yeah and let a few already rich top university admins get an extra 20 grand each for them and their co-workers. Entirely too many stories at my school of administrators handing out big contracts to their construction buddies and publicly turning down better offers, and then those construction buddies subcontracting, through my school, to their buddies. A good chunk of this is even public. And you want, in effect, deregulation?

Excellent example are the MBS's. Few million (home owners) getting fucked for the benefit of a few thousand, and we somehow want 'deregulation' ? This right-wing diluted view of social darwinism being absolutely justified is held by so many, until they actually get proper fucked by some unforseen circumstance (i.e. losing a job and getting poor, sick, etc.).

Since when did you become some whining liberal douchebag?

1. The federal government shouldn't be providing education for anyone, that should be done on a state by state level if it is done at all.
2. The problem with state schools is the same thing that is wrong with state science, you aren't going to bite the hand that feeds you and will agree with the politically correct bullshit at the time instead of keeping education free from political bullshit.
3. Colleges have to raise their rates every year because America is in the middle of a huge fucking economic problem, and all products cost more money every year due to inflation beginning to set in.
4. You are not entitled to a free fucking college education in America, stop thinking you are.
5. College educations are starting to become useless anyways, very few degrees actually have any real world applications and smart businesses know this. In the near future look for there to be more schools like ITT Tech etc that you can go and get a degree in a wide variety of professions without having to deal with the bullshit of going to an actual college. Engineering and Computers specifically.
