the first half is a clanmate so skip to 7:30 if you wanna see the jerome action

100% agreed. obv. the dude chose ARMA2 as the basegame to mod because it's pretty realistic to begin with, but like any mod especially one as crazy conceptually as this, it's got hella glitches. as a matter of fact since this post i'd say i have more or less stopped playing DayZ :P I am tired of slowly fighting and surviving for hours, making it to a military base, getting sweet loot, and then dying because a few zombies glitch thru a wall, or because of arma2's shitty control schemes i accidentally walk or crouch instead of walking (seriously i dont get the whole shift/double shift walk/run thing at all) etc etc. i'm ready for the standalone game (WarZ was announced previously by another company but the DayZ guys are going standalone as well - kinda pisses me off, 30 bucks was spent on arma2 needlessly.)

i've been hitting the boats around here recently, not even to gamble as much as keep an eye on my friend/co-worker who has a legit gambling problem. (i'll bring about 20 bucks which to me is the theoretical price of all the free beer + redbull i get while i sit at a slot and bet a penny every minute or cigarette or so) that being said i've done alot of people-watching, seen various games being played, and i'd like to come to a casino at least once with like 500 bucks and see what i can do with it on blackjack or poker.

pavement and like 3-4 of his friends have planned something like this for a long time, and basically they call it "UFC 420" because while in vegas they plan to smoke alot of weed (hence 420) and also finally throw down in a tournament against eachother and settle once and for all who would win in a fair fight, merely for bragging rights (hence UFC). maybe if they ever actually plan it we can go to hit the casinos and then get free entertainment in the form of pavement beating the shit out of his friends on the roof of a hotel.

it is incredibly fun and a post won't do it justice. basically it's an FPS that requires actual skill, where 15-year olds with ADHD reflexes can't win just by bunny-hopping and stabbing you with a knife from 10ft away. since it's tanks, the action is slow - and your tank has stats - so you have to do alot of tactical thinking, but then when you see enemies it becomes a shoot-em-up with a twist (because the tanks are highly detailed and have weakspots, you can aim for the driver viewport and slow them down by killing the driver, or try your luck at setting off their ammunition rack and one-shotting them, etc etc etc etc etc) so when you're in a battle, you think quite alot and have to be hella aware of your surroundings.

each map generally has three 'lanes' (main routes of attack) and the tanks come in several classes (light tanks (for scouting), medium tanks (for flanking maneuvers and support), heavy tanks (to lead the team's main push or pushes), tank destroyers (to camp/defend base), and artillery (who sit back and make long-range kills if the scouts do their job and light up enemy tanks and artillery))

each match you earn cash/XP to research new parts for your tank (guns, engine, turret, radio, suspension) and unlock/buy new tanks. the tanks are classed into tiers and nations, altogether hundreds of tanks. each tank has a crew as well, that you have to level up by battling, and once their base skill hits 100% you can get perks to give buffs to different things (view range, accuracy, ability to know when you've been spotted, repair buffs, etc). so not only does it have FPS elements but it has the skills/money/upgrading/stats depth of an RPG. this means in a battle, even if you face a tank you've seen before, it might behave differently. maybe the guy has different crew perks, or he hasn't bought the upgraded gun, or he bought extra equipment like a gun rammer that decreases his reload speed by 10%.

the best part is that if you join a clan that gets big enough you can play clan wars which is like risk. there's a map online and your clan places a 'bid' on a landing spot and you have scheduled matches versus other teams. just like in risk, you have to place 'chips' down, your chips being each individual in the clan. so if you put 8 'chips' down, you are putting down 8 spots (matches are capped at 15v15). if you win the landing battle then you have a foothold, and you can start edging inland and gaining ground. the clan i've been in for maybe 5 months now just merged with another clan to get to a proper CW size, and we're currently defending our first piece of territory versus other people trying to land.
