Obamacare has been pretty big news and I am surprised that there aren’t any threads on it in here. And although I can’t help but think that if this had been the brainchild of the Bush administration that this forum would have been loaded with flames but this certainly seems to transcend any Republicans vs. Democrat debate.
I’ll be the first to agree that the US health care system needs fixing. No one wants to see people dying or losing quality of life because they cannot afford proper health care. But why do so many Americans limit their perspective to those who only live close to them? How can we argue that everyone who lives close to us should have access to affordable health care when there are thousands of people dying because they don’t have access to 87 cents worth of malaria drugs?
And putting aside the debate concerning that Obamacare is really just a method meant to redistribute wealth (which historically hasn’t ever worked in any country); why would anyone think for a second that allowing the dumbass politicians in Washington to get their fingers in this pie would ever turn out to be a good thing? These morons have spent well over $350 million, and may be closer to $600 million, on the development of this web site. In comparison Apple only spent $150 million on the development of the original iPhone according to Forbes.
And this is just the beginning of the failure of Obamacare. The true cost of Obamacare is now just being understood by everyone, turns out there is no free lunch (imagine that). Surely no one thought that the insurance companies were going just eat the cost of adding 47 million bad risk Americans, no matter if they have preexisting conditions or can’t really pay, to their rolls. I know many people and companies who have already be told their insurance costs will be doubling or more. And of course there are the 14 million Americans who had insurance and were promised that they could keep it but now are finding out that they cannot and will be required to buy new, more costly insurance. And did people really think that Washington was just going to shit new money to cover the ‘discounts’ they are giving to those who can’t afford it now?
Additionally the ‘marketplace’ is a joke, it is all the same insurance plan. The only thing that differs in the plans are the levels of deductables. If you go with private companies you will discover all kinds of ways to customize health insurance options. It is just like choosing a car, you may want gas economy, the ability to haul things in a van or truck, or have a kick ass sound system. But according to these politicians everyone should be choosing between 3-4 Kias.
Have any of you exactly gone through the web site process; it’s a cluster fuck. Imagine spending 4-5 hours trying to get through this web site only to find out after your have entered your personal info that you should have “no reasonable expectation of privacy.” This is the kind of shit you get when you put politicians in control of almost 20% of the US gross domestic product.
And the entire thing is based only on a person’s income!!!! (Not wealth.) So in other words, you can live in a 5 million dollar house, drive a paid for Lamborghini, and vacation in Switzerland and still qualify for large discounts on your health insurance because they only consider your actual income.
This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats, this is about career politicians carving out every bigger pieces of the pie for their control. WTF were people thinking; that politicians would do a good job by getting their hands on healthcare?
