College/Univeristy is what you make it to be. For example, I had a pretty tough time freshman yr (this past yr) because I chose to take hard honors courses. Midway through the first quarter (we're on the trimester system) I deceided to ditch biomed engineering and changed into biology in the Arts and Sci college. I think you should really try to enjoy freshman yr by taking at most 1 challenging class. Studying will prob take a big chunk of your time and the library prob will become your new home (if you really want to succeed). Best thing to do also is to know the campus and get a feel for the nearby places/cities/towns. And it's absolutely important to meet AS MANY PPL AS POSSIBLE the first 2 weeks of school. After that window of time you won't really have a natural opportunity to meet new ppl and cliques will already be forming.

Btw I'm at Northwestern University in Illinois (outside Chicago).

The most important stuff you learn at college isn't what they teach you in the classrooms. it's your first time away from home, you learn a lot about yourself. If you get too caught up in classes, you might miss out on this part. Someone above said to take no more than 1 hard class in your freshman year, I think that's good advice. Take time to get adjusted and make friends.

Almost forgot the most important thing..

ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS wear a rubber EVERY SINGLE TIME!

          this is no joke.

Usually colleges will hand them out at orientation and stuff like that, take them, take extra. you just never know. even if you're an ugly kid that never gets anywhere with chicks, don't take any chances, you need to be ready.

Ahh I know a few people at Ryerson.. I'd say if you go to any of those places mentioned above it is absolutely positively not like the movies, especially if it's something to do with computers!

Ryerson is cool cause they have that fashion design program (READ: lots of really hot girls).

I use to work till like 9 oclock and there was like a huge TV and a bunch of chairs where u could relax and students would come down and chit-chat and stuff like that , looked pretty fun while I was working there.

Make sure that your condoms don't wear out, too. If you are an ugly kid that doesn't get laid a lot, the heat from being in your wallet being carried around all the time for a couple weeks can definitely make condoms ineffective.

Basically, college is exactly like high school, only you get fucked up a lot more. The people don't really change, the classes don't really change.

Obviously, but that's what I'm saying, there is a lot of drinking and most parties have a fair amount of dancing but most parties aren't quite as crazy as what you'd see in say Animal House. Personally I prefer the 20 people parties over the like 150 people parties. And dont' get me wrong I'm a big fan of getting drunk it's just not really as crazy as some people try to pretend it is in their exaggerated drunken stories (this is probably just a pet peeve of mine, I hate when people rely on hyperbole to make their lives sound more interesting).

Although my college isn't really full of crazy people, I know the few Penn State parties I've been to blow out our parties, mainly because their girls like to get naked a lot more than ours do. So it depends somewhat on the university of course.

University life is what you make of it. Ill be going into my 4th year for economics at Wilfrid Laurier and ive never been to a single party. Ive visited our campus club once, the bar twice and id say ive met around 3 ppl i actually keep in contact with. Of course first year i was forced to live in residence and live on a floor with 20 other guys, but most of them have either dropped out or are in programs that have them in different buildings the whole year. Laurier is only about 7000 ppl and about 90% of my classes are in one building reserved for economics and high level finance classes mainly. So ya, i personally have had little to no involvement with ppl or activities at my school, but thats been my choice. It helps that i drive 90 min to school in the morning, go to my classes, then drive home right away which allows me to not become involved in anything. Oh and let me know if u go to Ryerson, my lil bro will be starting there next year for the information technology course

P.S. UofT sucks so bad in so many ways its not funny, dont ever listen to Epi about schools, the guy barely made it into med school. I mean shesh what a slacker

I would regret what you're doing Eric, if I looked back on my college years I would say I wasted one of the best times in my life.

-shrugs- Im happier than ive ever been in my life right now. I also have a much more active social life, I just chose not to include my school in it. I wasted 5 years in highschool, that I sorta regret although its what most ppl did in my school. To be honest I dont have much free time anyways, right now I work full time on co-op and in the fall ill be commuting to school 3 days a week, 3 hours of driving a day. In the winter im moving back since ill have classes every day including a couple 8:30's, but I expect to be too busy with school work to engage in a social life, otuside of hanging out with friends on the weekends.

Like I said before, university life is what you make of it. Most people would probably regret what im doing, but it works fine for me. Ive never been the party type, im more interested in graduating, getting a great job, my CFA, my MBA, buying a house etc .... I would definetely suggest that any1 who goes to university tries new things to see what you like. I tried stuff, it just didnt stick

University sucks!!!! Goto school get into debt, try to look for work in what you got educated in, SOL bigtime!

                          Just goto this University....

University of LICH (Life, Industry, Common Sence, and Hard Knocks)

The real University is not a building nor an institution; it is knowledge and wisdom.

Knowledge/Wisdom is everywhere you look, it is calling out but no one listens. Some pay for it, others find it freely available.

Did PLATO have a university back in Ancient Greece? Not really, just a bunch of great thinkers sitting out in an amphitheatre; thinking /sharing great thoughts with each other.

                          Happy now, King Missile Man?

I know I get carried away with long messages, just my train of thought goes too deep sometimes. Sorry if I share too much of myself with you all; just thought to share my wisdom.
