Yes, why go to a university where people discuss great thoughts from smart people when you should be going somewhere to discuss great thoughts from smart people?

While going to college/university (I'll just refer to it as "college" from here on out--know that I mean either/or) might not be for everyone, I'd disagree with WiseCherub.

As a lot of other people in this thread have stated, college isn't just about book learning. It's a social atmosphere where you can begin to feel more comfortable in a professional setting.

I'm sure that Cherub's "School of Hard Knocks" (a name which I hate, by the way) is a cheaper route, but as anyone can tell you, "cheaper" doesn't necessarily always translate into "better." My university experience is something that can't be quantified by what I spent monetarily. In fact, if you're worried about being in debt, know that I've already paid off my student loans, and I'm just about two years out of college (5-year degree, with a little help from my current employer).

I'd go into the whole "you'll meet tons of new people" speech, but that's been covered already. All I can say is that it's true. I've made quite a few friends in college that I never would have met if I had stayed at home (RogerMexico and Divine Rides being two good examples).

There's not a "best route" for everyone, but in my opinion college isn't a bad way to spend 2-6 years. If you want to be more "employable" after those years, I'd suggest doing as many internship/summer jobs in your field as you can during those 2-6 years.
Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.

I have 1 more year to go and am off to some College in Toronto probably. To anyone who is currently attending some college or university and has lived on campus my questions to you are

1.Dude is campus really a great place to meet people or is it some dirty ass smelly rat hole?

2.Can u meet alot of friends at campuses or are people like robots wondering around and studying all the time?

3.Does College look anything like the movie Van Wilder or Road Trip or that UNDERGRADS Cartoon that they keep showing every night?

First off, pv is absolutely right on that "depends on which college" part.

          1. College can be both. Yes my dorm is a smelly rat hole.
          2. Well im not sure about private universities but state universites are anything but that, sure you can find unsocial ppl, if you squint really hard.
          3. It COULD. I mean, without ppl like van (imean the guy was an undergrad for like 11 yrs or some shit) But throw in some hot chicks, frats, and beer and itll look like whatever you want it to look like.

PSU has been really good to me so far, not just the booze and girls, but also booze and girls.
