Anyway, if you have a Dell flat screen, let me know what you think of it. Thanks!
I have one, but i bought a 17" with a great video card and apparently i cant get any better than 1024 res ... i've asked everyone for help, even DoCk> and everyone at my college who are all in the same computer science class i am in... no one can do anything, even the Dell company who i've phoned... but apparently you should be able to get MUCH bigger res' on 17" monitors.... so apparently i own a piece of shit. Other than that, to an amateur computer user such as myself, it seems very nice.

Awesome, most LCDs have a maximum resolution and a native resolution, both of which are most often one and the same. There are 17" LCDs out there with a native resolution of 1024x768.

well mr conc, i used to have a dell pc.

i went to get it upgraded and couldnt because u cant upgrade dell pc's because dell are awkward bastards.

Chances are it's not Dell's fault that your machine couldn't be upgraded. Guess what, people? Computer architechture changes over the years.

"Waaaaaa, I can't just put a shiny new P4 in my open Pentium 133! Must be Dell's fault!"

I've never had ANY issue doing small upgrades to Dells, and I've been working with them for years now. You just have to be realistic in what you upgrade, as well as take upgrading into account when you buy your computer.

What about the Viewsonic VP171B? It's only a 17 incher, but it's got a 16ms response time and pivoting capability.

J, get the Samsung 213t... 21" of pivoting goodness. The things are fucking sweet.

You've got 1k to spend, right?

Haha! Yeah Conc, just let me ransack a few floors of one of the dorms. I'm sure there are plenty of rich little snots with stacks of cash sitting around that mommy and daddy sent from home.

What monitor(s) are you using? Don't tell me you threw down a grand for one of those?!

I'm currently using two of these at home:

                      http://www.samsung.com/Products/Moni...nitor_181T.htm
                      (Samsung 181T)

...but I was using one of the 213ts for about a month. I wish I owned one. Maybe I'll talk work into getting me a couple.

The 1800FP is the 181T, save for the Dell bezel. If I do in fact get a 19" from Dell, I'm going to go with the 1901FP which is the 1900FP's successor. The 1901FP has pivoting capability, but it's based on a Lite-On LCD rather than the Samsung 191T (which is what the 1900FP is based on).

My biggest problem right now is trying to decide whether or not I want to worry about gaming that much. There's currently NO 19" LCD out there with little to no ghosting in today's games. Only the 17 inchers have 16ms response times, thus not much ghosting to speak of.

Decisions, decisions... should I wait until Christmas-time to see if any 19" LCDS with a 16ms response time are released, or should I just say fuck it and get a 17" now. I'm currently using a 19" CRT, which has an 18.1" viewable screen. I suppose I wouldn't be too bothered by the 1.1" drop in screen size, but then again, a 19" LCD is just fucking sexy.

                        I'm so confused right now.

Moneywise, I've heard that you should not get a 19 in. I think the main reason is that the max res jumps from 15 in to 17 in. But from 17 in to 19 in, there is no jump. However, 21 in it leaps up to 1600x1200. So if you do get a 19 in, there's basically 2 more inches of unused space/wallpaper/whatever, which may be good for coding I guess.

                          Check out:

And yeah, the new Dell LCD's are quite sexy. But they're so freakin expensive.

If choosing a monitor is confusing, man you have one really easy, or one really hard life.
