I've been told that it's logically impossible to disprove the existance of a omnipotent being. That said, you're still right.

I don't know if there's a god either, but if there is, I'm sure me and him are cool.. I really can't imagine he'd be up there smiting people because they didn't gather in the church and talk about how awesome he is.

I'm not quite sure as to whether I'm an atheist or if I'm just plain agnostic. Anyway, I refuse to take part in any form of organized religion, and I don't buy into any of the doctrines of any religion, even if you subtract the "organized" part of it. Basically, I see it this way:

The World (meaning all of the people and their various societies/cultures) - Religion = Every war in the history of humanity divided by two, at the very least.

In other words, I see religion as nothing more than a means of dividing people and/or their beliefs and thus acting as a catalyst for war. And if you took away religion, you'd more than likely take away at least half of the wars humanity has been through.

You may think I'm just blowing smoke here, but if you were to play historian for a day and take a long, hard look at say... ten major wars throughout history, I guarantee you religion will have played a major role in each and every one of them.

" love talking about the Kennedy assasination. The reason I do is because I'm fascinated by it. I'm fascinated that our government could lie to us so blatantly, so obviously for so long, and we do absolutely nothing about it. I think that's interesting in what is ostensibly a democracy. Sarcasm - come on in. People say, "Bill, quit talking about Kennedy man. It was a long time ago, just let it go, alright? It's a long time ago, just forget it." I'm like, alright, then don't bring up Jesus to me. As long as we're talking shelf life here... "

"You know the world's 12 thousand years old and dinosaurs existed, they existed in that time, you'd think it would have been mentioned in the fucking Bible at some point. "And lo Jesus and the disciples walked to Nazareth. But the trail was blocked by a giant brontosaurus... with a splinter in his paw. And O the disciples did run a shriekin': 'What a big fucking lizard, Lord!' But Jesus was unafraid and he took the splinter from the brontosaurus's paw and the big lizard became his friend. And Jesus sent him to Scotland where he lived in a loch for O so many years inviting thousands of American tourists to bring their fat fucking families and their fat dollar bills. And oh Scotland did praise the Lord. Thank you Lord, thank you Lord. Thank you Lord."

"Get this, I actually asked one of these guys, OK, Dinosaurs fossils - how does that fit into you scheme of life? Let me sit down and strap in. He said, "Dinosaur fossils? God put those there to test our faith." I think God put you here to test my faith, Dude. You believe that? "uh huh." Does that trouble anyone here? The idea that God.. might be.. fuckin' with our heads? I have trouble sleeping with that knowledge. Some prankster God running around: "Hu hu ho. We will see who believes in me now, ha ha." [mimes God burying fossils] "I am God, I am a prankster." "I am killing Me."
              The late Bill Hicks everyone.

Where'd you get those transcriptions? I want the one about Gideons off Rant in E-Minor.

Another point, you guys seem to have the idea that organized religion = war. That when you join a church, you're signing up for the armed services or something.

Today, there aren't that many fundamentalist Christians as there were back in the day, hell...there aren't even that many fundamentalist muslims. The wars are started by right-wing fundamentalists who seem to forget the whole "thou shalt not kill" thingy.

If your main reason for speaking against organized religion is war and killing, you should understand that these right-wingers don't have a grip on everyone, there are faithful people who wouldn't hurt a fly. Speak out against right-wingers, not the ones that are trying to do good.

you're very right. the crusades, WW1, 9/11, all of the fighting that's ever existed in the middle east... etc. all of those were brought on by extremist religious beliefs.

That might be true, but its no basis for choosing your own religion (unless one of your options was extremist fundamentalist).

That's almost like saying you're gonna quit Triple A because some members kill people.

A lot of murders are caused by money and/or sex. Should we outlaw those too?

I'd say religion is about even with money. It's funny you mention outlawing money... I'm a socialist.
