I saw Quentin Tarantion's latest opus Kill Bill vol. 1 yesterday afternoon and I think it is one of the best films of the year.
Now I know most of you are too young to see this in the theatres, but for those who have, what did you think of it?

It's got the Tarantino trademark style: dark humour, dramatic shifts in time, sharp dialogue, hypnotic music and lots of violence. Uma Thurman plays her role excellently, which shouldn't really be too surprising as The Bride was designed just for her (she actually suggested the concept to Quentin during the making of Pulp Fiction). While Tarantino's scripts tend to feature sharp patter between his characters, dialogue in this film is more understated, taking a back seat to the action sequences. Speaking of the action sequences, Tarantino produces his bloodiest work yet, with dozens of limbs being severed and gallons of blood jetting into the air. Despite the recent trend of filmmaking that makes heavy use of computer effects and actors flying through the air on wires, Kill Bill's scenes are relatively lo-tech yet thrilling and balletic. Everything is hyperstylized, especially the spurting of blood from open wounds. Though some may find that same (over)use of jetting blood, the effect becomes source of laughter itself. That effect was intentional and is strangely effective, while in other films it would be cheesy and excessive.

The decision to split the film into two volumes was a good one, as it allowed two important scenes (one of which is completely animated yet still very much maintaining Tarantino's style) to remain in the film. The second volume, due for release in February, will be eagerly anticipated by anyone who sees this first part.

In the hands of another filmmaker, Kill Bill would have been a satire of the genres which inspire it. In Quentin Tarantino's hands, Kill Bill is a powerful homage to those influences.

If all you saw in this movie was impossible blood spill and decapitation, you have no idea how to watch a movie.

There was exaggerated violence and gore, ya so? QT integrated it into the film because he wanted to and knew it would make the movie all the more interesting.

I'm with TK, I absolutely loved this movie-- from the way it was told to the many twisted characters; it is just an incredible feat in storytelling. And that anime scene, pure genius... I mean it just fit in the movie perfectly, like a dream.

And the entire story hasn't been told yet, so of course people will think it seemed incomplete. Can't wait for volume 2.
hey I'm Paddy Tanniger the caddie manager yeah it rhymes big whoop wanna fiight about it??

I just saw it tonight, and personally I thought it was fantastic. As usual with Tarantino the music is absolutely perfect for the movie, and is really a large part of what makes his movies great. The usual Tarentino dialouge is there to a less degree, but still there is some really good stuff.

You can't view this movie as taking place in "the real world" it's basically an anime being acted out by a cast. I think from the first scene with all the plastic objects lying in the front yard you get the sense that's it's a plastic, fake world. If you let the gushing blood and 1 woman fighting off a hundred guys type stuff get to you you're not going to like the movie. Instead, appreciate it for what it is, and you'll love it.

Great movie. Am I the only one that loved the animation during the origin of O-Ren? Kickass stuff.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I normally don't like that kind of.... I don't know I'm not an expert so I'll call it American looking Anime, but it was perfect for translating between the two without feeling disjoint. It was done really well. Great stuff.

is that the one i saw in the previews where it looked like uma ran around swinging a sword in some weird yellow body suit the whole time?

ok wait a minute why should they use swords when they can just kill her with a gun? O_o

because this movie is a throw back to all the old 70's Kung Fu movies. its like sword fighting and stuff, but in modern times.

This is exactly what it is, the movie is just like an anime. As soon as it cut to the anime Oren Is-shii scene I realized what was happening. Pretty cool

Also when I saw it in the theatre the movie shut off and the lights turned on right near the end of the movie during one of the fight scenes, and the 20 of us in the theatre came to the conclusion that Quentin T. purposely ended it that way as an artistic thing and we all started leaving. Thankfully somebody asked the manager and we all went back in, otherwise I would have missed the ending.

P.S. I'm not back from the Army yet, there's just a few computers here at my AIT Congrats Elusive on TWLD, good job Melee as well!
                              I'd rather be SubSpacing.
