Hip hop is creative sound effects, little more.

I pose that these are "artists" and not at all "musicians"

Any "music" that can be fully replicated without the use of actual instruments or the abilility to read and write music is not actually "music", but simply sound effects that can be created on some Commodore 64.

I pose that less than 1% of hip hop artists have any ability at all with actual music composition.

How else can an entire "band" enter a stage with nothing more than themselves and one idiot "dj" rolling a turntable on stage.

Enjoy hip hop for what it is, but don't call it "music"
Doing so only soils the entire art.

                    Here's why you're an idiot...

Turntables can be instruments just like a guitar or anything else. Now are you going to make a list of "acceptable instruments" and say "music has to have a certain number of instruments off this list"?

I could just as easily say that any idiot could buy a guitar and learn 3 chords and make songs.

You say they have no ability, have you ever tried to mix records or produce beats? I'm guessing no. If you're saying the MC himself has no ability, that's just stupid. that's like hearing a bad poet, or reading a bad book and saying "writers have no ability, anyone can write 100,000 words and call it a book".

There's good ones and there's bad ones, just like anything else. So don't judge something that you obviously have no experience with. I don't give a fuck if you don't think it's "music", but to say there's no skill is just retarded.

Funny how someone has to resort to personal attacks to defend their position. (idiot, retarded)

If you would bother to read a little more closely, you might see that I never claimed that those "artists" lacked skill. I merely observe and am of the opinion that they have no tangible "musical ability"

This would only imply that they posess no formal training and, hence, would be hard pressed to actually read and write music.

Mixing and recording "beats" is liken to primal human activity. See any 2 year old gyrating to a systematic sound and you will see the lack of complexity required to stimulate preteens in to same activity. It is rather difficult to find anything original as far as percussion is concerned in rap and hip-hop. Most of it is "borrowed" (read stolen) from existing genres. The "artists" simply do a good job posing as "talent".

My lone rant will certainly be ignored by the countless worshipping minions hoarding the stores to buy hip hop recordings. So please restrain yourself from taking my criticisms personally.

So we never had music until people started getting trained to play it?

At what point in history did humans stop their primal activities and start producing "music" as you put it?
                        Ну вот...

You're right on a few things, and you defended your position better than I did, but that doesn't change the fact that you're talking about something that you don't understand, and have had very limited exposure to.

There's a lot of musical ability in being a dj. I'd love to see you get 2 turntables and a mixer and make something happen.

How many rock drummers know how to read music? maybe half? are they musicians? of course they are. They have an ear for music and natural talent.

And you've never heard any original or complex beats in hip hop, you must only listen to that band-aid guy.

And back to the topic, I just listened to Afu-ra - Body of the life force. It's pretty good, but too battle rap for my taste.

understandable bz If you're looking for the complete opposite, get Akrobatik's Balance next.

But i love afu-ra, unique voice and beats, great lyrics, and a style all his own.
I don't mind battle lyrics, I can relate sometimes., and sometimes they can be very tastefull and/or incredible -> Guru for instance \

and the guy with numbers in your name, i won't bother because it's apparent you're approaching this entire thread with a closed mind. So I won't call you stupid, and i won't call you a retard, but I will call you ignorant. Smoke weed, it'll open your mind.

I hear shrooms will do that to you too.

Isn't it funny how the only 2 legal drugs do absolutely nothing for you? But all the drugs that are legal, come from nature...and they open up your mind. Making marijuana illegal is like saying God made a mistake. I guess that's why God made republicans...
