Search for the "Final Fantasy 7 - Advent Children" thread. I have more information about the FF7 Remake there. I guess you missed it.

We seem to be confused here. Final Fantasy 7 - Advent Children will be a DVD film sequel, not a playable game. There is no update or remake of Final Fantasy VII planned, just a re-release of the game to coincide with the release of the film next year.

Where is your source for that Final Fantasy VII remake, Dameon? If you mean the thing you mentioned in the previous thread, be careful to note that the news release you cited said "rereleasing", not remaking. The confusion between those two terms is what caused rumours of an updated version coming out. The only update they are likely to make is just to put all four CDs onto a single DVD.

SquareEnix has announced that they are infact rereleaseing Final Fantasy 7 on the PS2 WITH FF7 - Advent Children as a bonus DVD packaged. We do not know yet if the graphics are going to be upgraded, nor what kind of bonuses we have in store.

                  Due out : Summer 2004

EDIT : SOURCE: Game Informer Magazine
I read this in this month's (or maybe last month's) Game Informer Magazine. They did a preview on the DVD and SquareEnix says they're gonna rerelease the game on PS2, but I know they're gonna upgrade the sound and the FMV sequences to a higher resolution.

Hardly what I would call a remake though. That implies an overhaul of the game engine. Once again, the term Square-Enix is using is re-release, so any changes will be minimal.

It's just too much like FFX for me to bother playing through it all the way.

because its set in the ffx world with some of the same characters and every final fantasy game is set in a different world with different characters and stuff..

Reader reviews are always skewed towards the extremes. Only people who like a good game would bother to rate it, thus skewing it high.

FFX-2 is a very good game. There are enough differences between this and FFX to define them as being very distinct experiences. The pace of battle, for instance, is much quicker in FFX-2. Strangely enough, load times seem a bit slower than its predecessor. The game is also not as linear as Final Fantasy games usually are. The storyline is advanced through missions, but you have choice to when you want to do them.

Even more ironically, this game uses more of the traditional Final Fantasy forms, such as the character classes and traditional level building. The different types of jobs recalls FFV and the tactics series, with some new jobs thrown in. You also return to the use of experience points to pass levels as well as ability points to learn new skills.

Being able to change classes on the fly is an innovative idea, and there are sufficient limits to this so that it doesn't become a cheesefest. For example, you have to arrange the job classes in grids so that you are limited to which options you can change to, depending on the position of your current job. Also the faster pace of battle I mentioned earlier requires more of your attention, making it sometimes hazardous or distracting to change jobs.

While in many ways, this game is a true sequel, the first ever in the FF series, it is also distinct enough from FFX that they are two very different games.
