I know a lot of people that have had PS2 issues, and apparently the explaination is that the 1st generation of PS2s produced were all messed up, and about 50% of them had problems.

Also, TK, I don't see how you can say that the graphics differences between X-Box and PS2 are negligible. Granted, they may not matter for RPGs like Final Fantasy, but for high-speed games like SSX or Need For Speed Underground, the extra res that GC and XBox offer really make the game a lot prettier. It's not just about more reflective snow.

You might want to check back, looking at 3 party company's there are many controlers out now.

I have always used an N64 and I got an X Box. I open up this box, plug it in and start playing and go What In The World!?? Now I can't possibly leave the xbox controller. Once you get used to it, it rules. Also, a while back I dug out my N64 and I was stuned and shocked at the controller.

Most games use the left stick for moving and the right one for looking, btw. Sigh... I can't wait for Halo 2.

I'd have to agree with both Face and Vit. The first generation PS2's do have a lot of problems. Most of you PS2 fans that havn't had problems probably have one of the newer ones. I know some friends that rent games.. I know that probably doesn't help. I also have friends that buy new/used games with no scratches and still have problems.

As far as the controller, my friend had the S controller and the original and within about 20 minutes I got used to the original controller. I like how steardy it is, how heavy it is. With the S controller it has duel shock motors which kicked ass and I still could get used to the controller style. I just think it takes some getting used to with any new system. As far as the controller costing a bit more, I know PS2 controllers arn't that steardy. I've thrown one and busted it, and I've done the same to an X-BOX controller and it still worked fine. PS2 controllers are much lighter and probably more fragile.

Anyways I still stand behind a quicker loading smoother and faster system if I was going to spend the money in this generation to buy a system. Atleast I know for the next couple of years no one (not even a PlayStation 3) will have better hardware than the X-BOX. The X-BOX's price is more than fair compared to PS2's which I think is barly worth $99.99. Luckily I have a multi-million dollar Bill Gates running this X-BOX company. So he can afford to produce a better machine for less.

The biggest problem being they were chuffing expensive

I've bought all three systems, and the only one I haven't resold since is the Xbox. While I'll agree that the original controllers are kinda huge (I have big hands, and they were still kinda big), the small controller that they sell is frickin' beautiful.

The thing that makes the Xbox work so well for me is that I'm a tinkerer. I like to open things up and mess with their innards. Plus, it's a whole lot easier to mod an Xbox than it is to mod a PS2 or GC. Because of this, I have like 40 games instead of like 3.

In comparison to the importance of the games, the graphical quality is small enough to ignore. If you want a good example look at the Dreamcast, or if you want to go farther back, the Turbografix 16. Their graphics and hardware blew the competition away, but in the end, it was the games that decided their fate. Most people who do say that graphics matter usually look at games that are cross-platform to compare. The problem with that is those cross-platform games are not the ones that decide the fate of a console. It's the proprietary games that do it. If I can play Madden on all three systems, but only one of them offers Final Fantasy X and GTA Vice City as well as Madden, that's going to be what decides it for me.

Actually, you can play Vice City on two now.

EDIT: And the Vice City on the Xbox looks better than the PS2 version.
EDIT2: Final Fantasy is for suckers.

Crap. Just like a cash-grabbing double pack promotion to ruin a good example.

Remind me to ask you how to supe up my X-BOX and get all those games and install and mod chip and all that good stuff and shit when I get one... I have no clue about mod chips and all that.

Each system has their own trademark game.. TK probably has an ps2 or something.

PS has most notably FF series.

                        Nintendo has their Mario

                        Xbox has HALO

Whats under the hood does affect performance. Whether they make a signifcant difference is debatable. However, the XBox has a very significant lower load time and has a more fluid gameplay. I recommened Xbox because it does have great specs and games can be updated via Xbox live and can be stored onto its harddrive.

We aren't at a point where you can't play games on certain systems. Xbox simply has the capacity to run games at a higher level. No, I dont have an Xbox or Ps2, i have a SNES. New games are starting to take advantages of their resources. It might be smarter to invest in an xbox.
