  • Hook me up with a fun, enthralling PC game!

I want to play something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, maybe even giddy too.

Anyone know of a particular PC game worth checking out? I tried to look through IGN but it's nothing but ads and half-assed content that's cut-off halfway through with an offer to see the rest of said content for a nominal fee that's not too nominal.

Aussie, Zelda isn't for PC (unless you mean by emulators of course).

Jase, check out FXXI (if you can afford it).

          HOTU owns you, bitchface

          Indie games that rock
          • Eternal Daughter - Adventure platformer in the same vein as Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It has a very large world, I don't remember how many hours of playtime I got out of it, but it was a bunch. It even adds some to the genre with a pet similar to Lufia II's capsules.
          • Seiklus A brilliant whimsical adventure game. The puzzles are fairly simple, and the game is quite short, and you can't die. However, it is entirely excellent. If you've ever played Clyde's Adventure, it's that game but unsucky.
          • Soldat Haven't played it much, Leiro (Real-time worms for the heathens) meets Counter-strike.
          • http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Yoyo/9227/games.htm]Akuji The Demon[/url] Again, action platformer like Super Metroid/C:SOTN. It's about an hour long the first time through, not bad. The real challenge is beating it in half an hour to find out whats behind that stupid door.
          • The Spirit Engine RPG, lots of fighting. It's cool. Kinda hard to describe.

          Old School games that rock
Now, I'm only going to talk about ones you may not have heard of. Everyone in the fucking world played Space Quest. All links can be found on "Home of the underdogs". I can't link it on the forums, but google it, and you'll be okay.
          • Spellcasting 101 Type adventure (graphical) featuring a young boy becoming a wizard so he can nail some chicks. Quite good, quite funny.
          • Sanatarium Hauntingly beautiful adventure game about a man who can't remember shit all and is in an asylum. Weird shit happens to him. The puzzles are excellent.
          • Spellcross Turn based strategy game. You can develop your units similar to the way you do in Sid Meier's Alpha Centarui, in between each battle. Battles occur basically whenever you want them to (you slowly concur map areas mission style), but sometimes you must defend. My favorite strategy game.
          • System Shock 2 Simply incredible FPS. You reconstruct the beautiful story through audio logs that you pick up as you scour a space shuttle. The storytelling comes off much the way it does in Dracula (the book, not the movie, may you burn in fucking hell, Francis GoddamnFord Coppola)
          • BlackThorne Platformer. You shoot people. In the FACE. You also run and jump and blow through doors. It's fun, even if the premise sounds dumb. Oh, you can hide in the shadows, also.

That should keep you for a little

Anyone ever played any Roguelike games? They're really fun RPG-type games, yet most are kinda difficult, but VERY addictive. The thing is though, that most of them have NO graphics. The characters/weapons/monsters are all represented by ASCII characters, like an "@" for the main character, a "g" for a goblin, etc.

I know it sounds shitty, but as long as you aren't some graphics whore and have a good imagination, the games are as fuck as fuck.

ADOM is a favorite of mine. You make a character out of many different races and classes (GO GO GREY-ELF WIZARD) and go on a quest to save the world. The game is VERY difficult and unforgiving though; if you die, your character is erased and you have to start over from the very beginning.

GearHead is a different kind of roguelike that I just started playing. Different in that it's about using guns and giant mech robots instead of swords and magic. This is a really cool game too; you can take mercenary jobs, build awesome robots, etc. It's also easier in that your character doesn't get erased if you die.

There are also tons of others that people play, like Nethack, Angband (and it's 10,000 variants), Crawl, Rogue, etc. Not hard to find one that you like.

But remember, like I said, these aren't games for everyone, because the graphics are very minimal and require you to use your imagination. If you can get into them though, they god damn rock.

Here are a few pics of GearHead so you can get an idea.

World of Xeen: best game ever for its day in early 90's, you will think you are holding a sword while playing.

Betrayal at Krondor: best story line for rpg ever, will make you go buy a sword to hold while playing.
