Subspace 2: The Legacy
Well, I am a bit concerned that no one has pmed me, or asked about our upcoming title! That's what's really important here, as Subspace 2: The Legacy will definetly be an exceedingly fruitful venture for both EA games and you the fans. In the interest of clearing up some of these wild rumors though, I'll answer a few questions people have messaged me with:
Q: Why are you here?
A: I'm here to talk to the largest subspace community about our upcoming new title Subspace 2: The Legacy.
Q: Why are all the Subspace zones going down?
A: We are receiving much appreciated assistance from the DOJ in protecting our licensed Intellectual Property. The boiler plate on this site's front page contains excerpts from the legal arguments we have presented to many SS Zone Ops regarding their illegal use of our property and the subsequent penalties involved in such action. All Subspace servers have been given 30 days to comply, and are legally obligated to display that frontpage in the interim. As of right now, not everyone has complied.
Q: Why do all the zones need to go down in 30 days?
A: That date coincides with the closed-beta launch of our wildly anticipated new title Subspace 2: The Legacy!
Q: When I look on the web, it tells me subspacetwo.com is owned by Dock>'s web hosting company. Why don't you own it?
A: When we originally contacted Dock> about the use of our property, we were immediately overwhelmed by his talent and dedication to Subspace. In response, we offered him a position on the staff of our hot new title Subspace 2: The Legacy, and as a token of good faith he's been willing to temporarily host the official site while a local server is put online here in California. Once we get our facilities up, you can expect loads more information about our great new game.
Q: Who can I talk to about getting in the Subspace 2: The Legacy beta?
A: Feel free to email me at TimMcD@subspacetwo.com or private message me here on the forums.
I hope this clears some of the confusion surrouding the recent changes you've all seen on the site. I should have some screens from the alpha to show you soon, as well as further details about this amazing new game Subspace 2: The Legacy. Now, let's hear some questions!

"So, now back to reality. The reality of the situation is that BDE just doesn't care and even if they did, they might have lost their legal rights at this point. The worst case scenerio for subspace would be if some large gaming company (like EA, Microsoft, or even Sony) decided that the Subspace name was worth something and bought it off of BDE, then you would be in a situation where they could potentially attempt to shutdown subspace as you now know it (if they wanted to have control over the service). The good news for the subspace community in this regard is that BDE is a bit stupid about things and last time I checked was demanding 6 figures for the name...yeah right. "

Ashcroft creates task force for copyright violations
Last modified: March 31, 2004, 2:13 PM PST
By Declan McCullagh
Staff Writer, CNET News.com
The U.S. Justice Department said Wednesday that it had created a task force to evaluate prosecutions of copyright violations, including Internet piracy, and make recommendations about how existing efforts can be improved. "The task force will determine how best to meet the evolving challenges that law enforcement faces in the intellectual property arena," said David Israelite, deputy chief of staff to Attorney General John Ashcroft and chairman of the task force.
Although Congress has pressured the department to use the powerful No Electronic Theft Act to jail file-swappers, no such prosecutions have taken place. Wednesday's announcement also comes as proposals are circulating in Congress to give the Justice Department the power to levy additional civil penalties on copyright infringers.
