New season starts on Friday December 14th and ends on Friday February 15th.

There has been some minor bug fixes and improvements from previous season but nothing major.


Awards

- The top performers of each season will be immortalized in the Elim map by having their names placed in the top left corner

- The winners of each season will have medals next to their names on the websites

Note that this season, the activity cutoff will be active all season long. You'll need to have played an elim game within 7 days or you will not appear on the scoreboard.

I was working out a formula for ratings decay with mastersword, but he went MIA before it was finalized (RIP). If anyone wants to take a look and provide feedback, it's the 3rd sheet here, marked Decay: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Also, number of games required for full confidence has been moved from 75 to 100. Some players were reaching full confidence and afterward, were finding it unfulfilling to continue to play. The result is that playing more games will be slightly more favored over high-quality or fluke performances than in S7, but not noticeably so. (This increase is based on the average number of games played in S7 by players who played more than one game.)

I don't think you know what immortalized means. The top left corner only has the previous season's names, then you delete them. That's not immortalized. That's up for a few weeks then removed. Either keep all the previous winners up, or buy a dictionary.

Also, the prizes are awful. 500k pub bux? I see people duel for 10x that amount daily for 10 minutes work. The prizes should be like 10m, 7m, 5m. Finishing Top 3 in elim is harder than dueling to 5 against pee pee sock.

To clarify, last season winners won't be wiped (thus, "immortalized" is accurate). Before S7, winners were not even placed on the map AFAIK. I think S6 went on for about 2 years.

Fair point on the rewards. They seem a bit paltry, especially as the economy lately dispenses more. Though comparing duel bets won vs elim season rewards is a bit apples to orange, as you do have to stake money in order to win it in a duel. Still, seeing people duel for a few million does tend to lower the perceived value of the spacedollar.

I would also strongly recommend eliminating counting Kill Races. Yes, your rating doesn't change, but it counts as a GP and raises your confidence. You can in theory go 20-5 in one game, then play 99 kill races, and have a billion rating. It's ripe for abuse, and players know about it.

Yep kill races are dumb, and often not selected intentionally.

I was also wondering whether voting on kills even makes sense, it's almost always either 5, 7, 10, generally depending on how many players there are.
Surely the bot could choose a sensible number?
E.g. Deaths = MAX(5, MIN(10, numberOfPlayers))

Should we stop Kill Races from counting toward GP, or just remove them entirely? (They don't make much sense for an arena centered around elimination anyhow. More just a legacy thing.) Note that there may be problems associated with either one, though both are fairly low-risk.

Need it worked out ASAP if we're going to run a new season in 2 days!

I've never heard anyone clamoring for a kill race, but sometimes it's fun. Just as long as it no longer helps your rating or confidence.

Could !late be changed from highest amount of deaths to 2nd highest?

It's pretty common for the person with the highest deaths to have a lot more deaths than everyone else.
E.g. everyone's on 2 or 3 and one person is on 7, it would be better to put the late person on 3 than 7.

Remove killraces for sure, they aren't needed in elim imho. Killraces basically throw all skill out the window and create an environment that rewards players who play poorly ie. rushing to suicide, spawning and vulching.

Also.. what the fuck is going on with the Warbird map? There are way too many boxes, we have 3 now! Basically nullifies people who would like to use their radar. 1 large box (original elim) is more than enough. People can meet in the middle if there are only 2 playing, lately elim has been hopping though. It's distracting, ugly and makes things difficult for people if they are using their radar. Please consider. Fuel is unlimited in subspace, people can spend an extra 2 seconds to fly to mid if they have to.
