My boss tested positive for Covid 3 days ago... I heard a rumor he is doing an online interview of his experience, tomorrow... I still have no symptoms, so I can't get tested.... So to recap, my bartenders husband, and the owner of the bar I manage, have test positive. I can't get tested without any symptoms.... So chances are I've had it at some point. Covid is a bitch

our terminal set a record the week of xmas 2019, pushing 16,000 packages out in a single day

it was built to handle ~8,000 packages a day

we've gone 17,000 a day minimum for about two months straight now with none of the extra holiday-season resources

kinda sucks ass, kinda paid off all my debt tho. helped a coworker get a website going and thats now an extra couple hundred a month plus extra when i complete requested changes and updates before deadlines, on top of hazard pay on top of doubling my hours due to how much freight we move

i now understand why disaster capitalism is the religion of my country, financially the rona is the best thing to happen to me ever

fuck jeff bezos though, that "We PrIoRiTiZe EsSeNtIaLs" bullshit serves a deviously brilliant goal: amazon warehouses basically get a break which will simmer down the unrest and the walkouts, and the result has been a massive offloading of "nonessential" freight coming thru fedex. fully 50% of daily volume is comprised of all the fun stuff like furniture, generators, weightlifting equipment, grills, etc.

on a lighter note,

during the first two weeks or so after the governor enacted some quarantine policies, the response was pretty piss-poor. in louisiana we've got a sort of cultural response to shit hitting the fan: we throw ragers and get drunk as possible, ideally blacking out during the entire crisis of whatever. "hurricane parties" is a thing here idk if that's something everyone does, but we're religious about it.

like it's so ingrained i had a great exchange with one of my roommates the night before the bars were to be shut down: he literally came in, asked if i was going up to [our local dive], and explained that everyone was going up there to celebrate one last time - and as he is saying this, the gears start turning in his head, he realizes that's THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE NEED TO DO, and just has a "ohhhhhhhh god we are so fucked" moment

so basically since noone listened to him, the guv'nr was forced to pull out the big guns:

had o at a few daily pressers, spammed him all over the radio, and within a week everyone got with it, masked up, closed down, and stayed at home. legit would have been unsurprised if bel edwards had made o a four-star general and given him command of the la national guard - and unsurprised to see the national guard easily allowing this

as for the conspiracies:

nothing to say. the folks i respect intellectually don't believe dumb shit, and the morons obviously are immune to reason, logic, research, etc. so what would be the point.

like yeah the govt is making u wear a mask and gloves to control u. yeah this makes it less likely to be able to fingerprint things, and yes this disrupts facial recognition software, luckily our govt doesnt have alot of surveillance cams or fingerprint identification systems so their main way of tracking u is asking bill hates to microchip u. this makes sense and explains why we collaborated with china to create a virus except we didnt collab because fuck china, what happened was bill gates secretly planted the virus in WOO-han which explains why i was convinced that it originated there. gates u devious genius.

oh and for what its worth we have a medical school in town so alot of people i grew up with now work in the medical field in various levels ranging from nurses to emt's to doctors, specialists, etc and all i can say is if you don't believe the media hype that's one thing, but to doubt the existence and uniquely threatening nature of the rona is pretty fuckin oblivious, i know it's hard to know what to trust these days but tbh that's your problem; i learned a great deal about putting sources through the ringer as a debater and as a student of history, it took alot of work, and if you don't wanna do that work that's cool but also don't be some lazy parasite demanding something (my attention, respect, belief in your opinions, acceptance of your facts) for free

BTW Paladen has had our first Covid-19 case. Blizzzard had caught it in march and was sick for 3 1/2 weeks but survived along with his GF. He knew a early 50's woman that got it too and sadly she passed away from it. I asked him what it was like and he sad it felt like having pixie stick dust inhaled in lungs or breathing in freshly opened lipton ice tea. A constant irritation in broncial tube. He was drained and it lingered for weeks. He was in quarantine for 5 weeks. He is ok now thankfully.
