Health insurance in the USA is a gigantic crock of shit. The United States still spends more per capita on healthcare than any other developed country (as of 2017 anyway, most recent results I could find). Now I'm not here to argue for or against M4A, but our system here is far from perfect and is still a gigantic shitshow. I also agree with paradise! about the pre existing condition aspect of covid. We keep hearing about hospitals inflating numbers for financial gain (FTR, my brother in law is an ICU doctor throughout the metro area and said thats anecdotal at best, and is generally a crock of shit), but this pre existing condition shit is insanity as well. You have people like my wife or Ephemeral (glad to see you around buddy) with very obvious pre existing conditions, but there are also people who go to the hospital for COVID treatment, and in the course of their hospitalization some condition they have never known about is discovered. If someone has lived with some of these conditions forever and not been affected by it, is it really a pre existing condition? Last study I saw said 22% of the world's population is estimated to have a pre existing condition that can exacerbate the seriousness of COVID. That's a huge number. It's not just 80 year old overweight people with acute leukemia, 22% of the world's population is over 1.5 billion people.
I do agree with Eph's point about unbiased COVID information being next to impossible to find. The fact that a global pandemic has been politicized instantly in the USA is not a ringing endorsement for our political health here, on either side. COVID reporting right now is basically fuckheads cherry picking and skewing statistics to fit into the narrative they created that will prove the point they decided on in February, regardless of what happens. Even worse, people who react to new information and adjust their stance and eviscerated by both sides as well. We really are a bunch of fuckheads here at times.
