Ive seen ender flying around . He did not start to play 6 months ago for sure.
Well I think the game is to play for enjoyment and it is very addictive. I sometimes have those moments that I was doing something and i just have to play subspace. But then suddenly I don't seem to enjoy and everything seems so meaningless. You start to get annoyed by people and before you know it you are in an argument.
If you would be staff you would host all the time? I think that I would in the beginning, whenever I would play I would, but after a time it would get boring and because of the amount of people there will always be someone to whine or spoil the fun. (note: im not talking about people who ask for hosts!)
It's just the same as my sister, she is english teacher and sometimes she think a class really sucks and she doesn't feel like teaching them, but if she looks better it is only 3 or 4 people that cause the harm. It makes you feel bad but it shouldnt be a reason to give up. If you like something don't run from it.
Giving up your name is giving up something you build on for the last years, if some people don't know you, make them.
Play for yourself and maybe the people that you could call friends inside the game. Keep in mind that you play against other human beings and just like in RL you might not like them all.
                        You ate some priest porridge

General musings and abuse of metaphor (of course)

"To be a good staffer you need to be intelligent and have a sense of duty/responsibility. Pshyea like you're gonna find a lot of people like that."

-Louis something or other (I think it was a Roman numeral)

Once upon a time, I was a general manager of a restaurant (before I decided that pursuing a career in law was a more lucrative avenue of supporting myself and my offspring). In hiring, my evaluation process was as follows:

Is prospective employee a psycho? If YES, then don't hire.

Does prospective employee have a job history demonstrating said prospective employee's ability to perform as a good employee? If NO, then don't hire.

An easy shorthand on this question is to ask yourself whether said prospective employee is over the age of 20. Generally anyone over 20 has worked enough jobs to, umm, GET IT. (Mr. Burton, you were not put upon this Earth to GET IT. HHAHAHAA I love that movie.)

Not to offend you young people (though I'm sure I am, but it's a rough world -- get over it), it's just that as you grow older and become more experienced, you generally become better suited to handle positions of responsibility. I would have argued against this view when I was younger, but nowadays I realize that I would have been dead wrong. Older employees generally are a much better bet to perform well in fairly unsupervised positions -- they are better "self-starters," as industry parlance goes (further, they're used to the discipline of fulfilling responsibilities). Thus age of prospective employees should be of especially great weight in the the employer's calculus.

(For empirical evidence supporting this position, look to (a) general employment practices in every industry on the planet; or, for a more specifically tailored example, (b) examine patterns of sporadic examples of staff power abuse / general jack-assedness on Continuum.)

                            Cordially,

                            tCK

PS Ender, I think you expect too much out of the SS community, and are a mite bit too sensitive. I was on the chat in question when you received a request to (as they say) GTFO. Hey, it's their chat; if they think you're annoying (a completely subjective determination), you're annoying to them. Best bet is to just move along and not flagellate a dead equine.

And as to the general point you made (that squads and staff don't show interest and a lot of people who play this game have really severe social ills in conducting themselves in polite conversational fashion); well, you don't get mad at the snake for biting you -- it's a snake.

Pardon me for cliche metaphor, but I think I'm fairly clear and apt with this one.

You don't seem like a bad guy, and I hope you don't let one specific bad experience and a long-term general irritation interfere with your enjoyment of the game. Really, though, it's just a goddamned two-dimensional spaceship game with a chat program attached. At least, last I checked.
1:Pearl Jam> the gloves are for the prostitutes i'm going to hire
1:Pearl Jam> i'm going to make one of them shovel human feces into a wheelbarrow and run around with it
THE CRIMSO> that's more illuminative than jack's comment, but still pretty enigmatic
1:Pearl Jam> she'll have to wear a shirt that says "THE POOPSMITH" on it

This isn't the single most defining moment in my life... I'm pathetic, but not terribly so. It is just a 2d space ship game, as Cops is wont to say, but it is also a little social micro-cosm that we all share, and I feel the need to analyze to death.

I dun know if its been made abundantly clear, and I hope this is the more or less, end of the discussion; really, honestly, I dont dislike whiterabbits, I thank you all for helping me understand some things.... I've never been very good at social interactions, even online, and to compensate for that in the last few years I have tried to study and analyze social constructs and experiences, its become a constant thing.... thus I tend to write a lot, and sometimes you could say, too much.
In this case, I was going along thinking everything was cool and I was well thought of in Trench, and so forth, but Proj, and i guess this whole deal allowed me to see, that not only am I almost completely unknown, I'm not very socialable in game... the proof is in this thread, long time players and respected players, didn't know of me. Heck, even a complete dong like yung, whos completely and absolutley un-involved in the situation, accused me of being a newb, "just trying to advance my career"... and harrassed me in game.
All this, while other long time and respected players said they did know me, but attested that I'm just not known of.
And I see now the difference between myself and other people who've grown and become accepted in this game; I play in pubs, and in hosted events, and then some more pub, followed by pub, and thats how I've always done things. And only recently have I started hanging out in priv basing, and whens the last time you saw Mantra or Epi or Divine Rides or any other highly known and respected player in a pub? (If you can imagine a word said in a terribly disgusted voice, pub is it, because I mean, who would be caught dead in the holes that pub basing has become?)

Once given to the world of priv basing, I guess I got too enthusiastic, appeared annoying, and got told off, and honestly, rightly so. Thank you guys, you've let me explore and grow as a member of this community further than I ever have.
As they say, conflict breeds change, and betterment. In a community where shooting eachother is just another part of the game, the only real conflict we can have, is between people.
                              I'm a rocker. I rock out.

I didn't read your last post. Is it more complaining about getting rejected from a squad?
