Am I the only one who runs in windowed mode?

Anyway, I don't mind getting a higher res, but I don't mind if you don't, since a lower res lets me see the various other things that I'm doing while I'm playing Continuum.

higher res would mean that most subarena's with lvz would need to be redone, unless they can somehow account.
And I don't like the idea. First of all, it means that not all players are neccesarily on the same footing. And second, it makes radar somewhat redundant. Leading to more non-stealthed cloakers getting kills because people don't watch radar and a reviving of the old 'cloaker ruining trenchwars' argument. And we don't need that again.

Has anyone considered the consequences of greater eye strain at that resolution?
My mother already cracks the shits at me because my eyes are always bloodshot. She assumes it's always the game, don't make her right.

Well, as said before, it's everyone's personal choice to use a higher resolution.

The cloaker thing on the other hand is a real problem. (Well I don't like cloakers anyways, so I don't have a problem with it.) IMHO there should be a radius in which a cloaked ship is seen, but again, this would need changes in the client => not gonna happen...

And the lvz thing... "Most"? Do you mean that because of a higher resolution, you can see outside of the background images? I don't think that's the end of the world. (Most arenas with background images already have it like this anyways.) If you're talking about custom HUD additions, like in ?go battleship, the problem already exists. ?go battleship has "use 1024x768" in the welcome message. (But resolution isn't limited to that.) Finally, you must remember that the max resolution is not a server setting, it's an arena setting. (?go gravbomber already has max at 1600x1200) If bigger resolution brings problems to an arena, you can always limit it there.

Wide Screen laptops and home monitors show up perfectly in 1600 x 1200, unforunately you can only spectate. There is no advantage from viewing this in this resolution using the wide screen monitor. It has the same appearance as my NEC 20" monitor at 1024 x 768 on my home system.

I fail to see the advantage it would give to those playing at 1600 x 1200 if they where on a standard monitor, except that everything would appear smaller than it already is.

The only advantage a res change would give IMHO is that anyone playing with a widescreen monitor, be it a home or laptop system, would be able to play in a non-windowed format.

Am I the only one in TW that has a wide screen monitor? If not check it out in spec mode, since thats all you can do at the res of 1600 x 1200, and see for yourself that there is no difference when comparing this side by side with a standard monitor at a lesser res.

We change ship & arena setting, why not a res. setting...perhaps just as a beta for a week or two. Is it a difficult setting to change in the 1st place?

Erh, 404, I think you got some concepts messed up.

Advantages of playing with larger resolution are quite obvious: For example in dueling, you will see bullets from further away, so you can dodge them better. And no, it's not the same as playing at 1024x768 on any computer. More resolution means more pixels on screen which means you can see further.

And by "non-windowed" you must mean fullscreen. And resolution change wouldn't affect "being able to play non-windowed". If you really meant "windowed" it wouldn't affect it either. Actually it would just make it harder to play at max resolution, as your desktop resolution would have to be over 1600x1200.

Also, AFAIK, wide screen just means that monitor's height:width ratio is 16:9. (or similar.) Monitor being wide screen doesn't automatically mean that it can do 1600x1200 or vice versa. I have a non-wide screen monitor (4:3) that can do at least 2048x1536.

And no, changing the max resolution isn't hard. It would take about 2 minutes or so.

I think part of the original reason for the cutoff point was they checked how many people were using a certain resolution , realised a certain large percentage were using 1280 (or under) and decided that would be the best cut off point.

Of course if they did it now (a week of freedom to change res) they'd probably get similar results.

Sure why not, if everyone else wants to change it, go for it. Whatever makes the people happy

Well unless you can see what I am trying to make a point of on a WIDESCREEN monitor, then you may have misundertsood what I am writing. I cannot play TW on the wide screen unless it is windowed at a max of 1280 x 1024. I can spec however, in the resolution of 1600 x 1200 and it looks proportioned correctly to fit the screen. If I try to play in non-windowed..it does make a difference visually. It is like playing in 800 x 600 on a regular 17" monitor with stretched ships. Of which I really do not care to play in res. wise.

I will just stick to playing TW on my regular PC and use the laptop for other gaming when not stuck in front of the PC at home or ...cough...work.

Well if it looks correct, there's something wrong. 1600x1200 = 4:3, and widescreen is 16:9, which means the proportions are not correct.

I'd sure would like it, so my vote would be: yes.
