      2) why do so many people look like aliens?
ok, what planet were you born on?

racist terms are thrown around and everyone does it
Everyone does it, huh? No, they don't. Get a reality check, most people don't see the point in attempting to insult peoples ethnicity over a chat program when they cannot see or in most cases (teamspeak the exception) hear them. Its only the loudmouthed minority that sees it as compulsory.
The ignore feature doesn't work if the person you're ignoring keeps changing names, as a few do. Its by no means perfect. As it has been said before, usually these people are just dickheads looking to insult people. Seeing as, as a general rule, people don't particularly enjoy being insulted, these people get silenced or banned. And in most cases they know its wrong, yet they still do it. Idiots.

It’s indeed silly to get offended by racism etc. over the internet especially when almost certainly the majority of the “bullies” are grownup outcasts of the society, but I think a lot of the kids that plays this game aren’t mature enough to just ignore stuff like racism etc.. Though, it’s amusing to see grownups harassing kids over the internet, and then acts like they are all that and a bag of potato chips.

So are you saying it's more the fault of those being offended by racism than those being racists in the first place? That being racist isn't being immature, but knowing that it's wrong when you see it is? What's wrong with this picture?

I didn‘t really say it was anyone’s fault. I personally don’t see why you should get so offended. Why take such great offence and make a big deal out of it instead of just ignoring it and keep playing the game. Ignorant insults coming from some internet ruffian won‘t catch much of my attention at least. I don’t think that being racist necessarily means you are immature, and I can’t see where you got that idea from, but I do think they are quite sad. The internet ruffians most certainly know that “racism” is one of the best ways to make a lot of kids, pompous people and maybe a few retards very upset. I don't like racism at all, but I don’t think it has much if anything to do with actual racial discrimination, but for the sake of all the poor children out there in the subspace I don’t think we should tolerate it!

Who said that I was offended? If you think racism is just a matter of being offended or not being offended then you miss the point completely. It's a matter of right and wrong. You don't need to be offended by racism, you don't need to be the target of racism, and you don't need to be a victim of racism to say "you know what? That's just wrong."

Just look at the terms you're using: people using racist terms are "ruffians" while people who complain about it are "retards". People using racist terms aren't immature but people who find it wrong are. People using racist terms aren't racist at all, but those who have a problem with it are pompous. Why does it sound more negative to find racism unacceptable? You even try to defuse my description of those who use racist terms immature, when you yourself say they use them because "they know that 'racism' is one of the best ways to make a lot of kids, pompous people and maybe a few retards very upset". That doesn't sound like mature behaviour to me. Why is it that people spewing racism are just "internet ruffians", while those who stand up against it are "pompous, retarded, and silly kids"?

The problem with the whole "they're just being jerks; they aren't actually being racist" argument is that it tends to fall apart on itself. First of all, "they're just being jerks" isn't really a defense, it's an excuse. It doesn't change anything, nor does that condone their behaviour. Secondly, the "they aren't actually being racist" argument is problematic too. They're still committing the act; you're just denying the motive. It's like the difference between murder and manslaughter; is it much better if someone were "only" guilty of manslaughter? If you don't like the metaphor, just take the same excuses and apply them to other zone rules. "I wasn't using a cheat to help us win the DD, I just did it to piss the other squad off".

Even if you believe that they aren't being discriminatory, it creates an environment where racism is tolerated. What happens when someone starts going at it with actual hate and purpose? They'll just fall back on the same defense. Apologists for racism also say that kids hear it all the time everywhere else, therefore "protecting" them from it is futile. The hole in that logic is that allowing racism doesn't help either and may actually makes things worse.

You are the one missing my point completely. I never said it was either right or wrong to use racism, nor that it is wrong of people to take actions against it. Of course racism is wrong; everyone with a bit of common sense knows that. I’m not trying to blame anyone here. In my opinion however it is silly to get offended by racism over an internet game. It seems to me that you are just deliberately misinterpreting my personal opinions in ways that will best benefit your anti racism campaign.

While TK is always going to be right, the fact that the sysops (who own and run the server you play on for no fee) don't want racism on the game will always be the easiest argument.

If you want to be racist on your own spaceship game go dish out thousands of dollars a year yourself. For some reason, though, I don't think you can count that high.

TK is right, and I don't think he has any kind of 'anti racism campaign'. It is not 'silly' to have zero tolerance on racism. This isn't about going a few extra miles per hour over the speed limit one day, it is about 'looking the other way' and tolerating hate/hostile environment towards some people based upon their skin color.

I thought this generation was supposed to be more open minded then my generation. If this community is any indication, we are not evolving to being better humans, but rather sinking back into narrow-mindedness, prejudice, and bigotry pit we came from.

Rebelling by wearing your pants down around knees and showing the world your underwear? Rebelling by listening to anti-establishment music? Rebelling with dyed pink/blue hair? Rebelling by gothing out? How can you be a true rebel when you assume the same bullshit legacy of racism and prejudice that your parents have?

Here’s an idea, how about rebelling by being the first generation to show some true open-mindedness and acceptance of those who are different than you? Give us all some fucking hope that we aren’t simply perpetuating the same generational misery over and over.

Last I checked TW was not the United States or bound to a freedom of speech. The owners can make whatever rules they see fit. You agree to them simply by logging in. If I were in charge, I would ban the letter "m".

As for taking a game too seriously, apparently some people make a living playing cards. On TV no less.
