The Bot will track kills/deaths, wins/losses, goals/assists, saves, and "chokes" which Arceo is working on now, and I gather will be something like a player missing a goal when he is alone in the net, or within a certain distance of goal unguarded. We'll run a sick fantasy league once everything gets going.

The only reason it's not soccer game is because of the timer restrictions involved during the last shot at competitive play, but the bots can handle that when necessary anyway. Basically, there's no reason anyone should have to wait for one of TW's notoriously flakey bots to come in and "fix" the problem of douchebag #3 sitting in terrier all match, and I don't see why the arena should start broken. Set it to soccer match, and do whatever else you want to do for timers in twsb arena or something, but don't leave it up to the bot when there's an extremely elegant solution in the goddamn arena settings.

This is 100% true, i hate looking at a jav with my name next to it . Fucking ugly yellow 1980s military planes (don't make me change my graphics) . Listen, it's max 5 on 5 and everyone's name and radar is yellow or blue. Honestly I think it could be helpful to have diff ships on your team, knowing that Animol is a jav and Tricer is a bird could be beneficial. Ships 3-8 will not be allowed. players/caps will be able to !wb or !jav to pick a ship.

      • I have a suggestion for the bot. I have pondered how to bring new people into the game. Whenever I play someone new, I either go easy on them, but they get bored and leave or I destroy them, which while it shows how the game is interesting the other person tends to leave.

I believe the best way to interest someone is to let them play in a big game. Since no smart cap would pick this player, I suggest that each cap should get one pick for the other team when there are many people in the arena. Hopefully, if the bot is successful and people come it will interest some new players in playing.

Best way to get people interested is to bring squads into it :P That way anyone can get involved. All you need is 5 people. Thats what i like about twd - you dont need skill to play just 3/4 other people

          • By the way, I'm sorry I haven't gotten an improved version of the bot with less known bugs/more promised features to you yet. I'm working on it daily, but I've begun a clean rewrite that should make things much smoother now that I know more about twcore, the issues faced by a matchbot, and have brushed up on my 3+ year-old rusty Java knowledge (hurray for generics and anonymous inner classes!).

Captained games will only be when there's a host- and the games will be more exclusive to good players (pending attendance)-- the automated games that will be going on 24/7 when there is no host present, will let anyone who wants to play in and will attempt to even the teams talent wise (and WILL even the teams numbers wise). I'm all for people picking up the game, but it's annoying to be a part of that process, more than dueling or javs or base, speedball can be ruined by bad players, a bad player does more harm to a team than being a man down. So yeah, let's get new players involved, we'll have the bot spew out some simple instructions and gameplay commands- i recommend making a speedball macro(s), I use F4 (left) and F5 (right) to say which direction we're going and Insert is pass and don't run with the ball etc. I don't know if it helps, but it's fun to mash when someone shoots on the wrong goal or holds the ball until they die. In short- obviously interest in the game is important but not at the constant expense of competitive players. I think a league will obviously bring a massive amount of interest as well as standardized knowledge of gameplay. We're not there yet, so just keep playing, be as patient as you can with the new guys (use CONCISE SIMPLE instructions) and hopefully the ball (wakka wakka wakka) will keep rolling.

              • Did I mention I can't fucking stand it when people sit running with the ball for 3 whole seconds with me being wide open and in front of the way their ship is facing before they get shot and the ball taken away?

                • bah, don't say don't hold the ball... I used to think that but constant passing is very predictable, bad for advancing the ball, and bad for killing defenders. You should only pass quickly if you and another teamate has an open net with no defenders, or if you can't dodge all the incoming bullets/bombs/shrap. If you can carry the ball and deke out one opponent, usually that is enough to pass to an open teamate.

                    • No, there is never any point in holding onto the ball when you have an open teammate right in front of you down the field.

I know you may think you're pretty great at the game of sb or vet at it or whatever, but frankly I've never even seen your ass prior to your join date and really haven't seen anything all that stellar come from you in play. Do not reinforce the misconception of being a slow ass fucking duck waddling down the field as a viable playing method, else I'll have to really tear into your e-ass for it. Seriously.

                      • you can hold the ball if you're setting up a shot or pass and have time to do it, but more often than not these kids are just running with the ball, not knowing how much slower they are with it compared to the defense and how their hesitation costs us an easy goal. I'm not saying it's catch and instantly pass every time, but i'd rather someone do that than let the defense get caught up while they make their little rugby run.

i find it mildly amusing how mis-informed you are. i never thought i am some vet at sb. Frankly, i'm still a newbie, but a newbie stating the facts. Holding onto the ball on attack is crucial. It is much more important than quick passing against good defenders. this allows your teamates to kill defenders in the crease, and you can draw a few defenders away from the crease.

also in 1on1 or even 2on2, holding onto the ball for as long as you can is very important for advancing the ball. if you hold onto the ball for 3 more seconds than your opponent, you gain that much more ground on their goal.

anyways if you've never seen anything stellar come from me, it's because i've never done anything stellar, but i manage to win games. No reason to show off to newbies and ruin sb population; and no reason to show off against vets because it's only luck anyways and i might screw up; and no reason to show off to people like you because you wouldn't appreciate it anyways. Hence i've done nothing special in this game. remember, i'm still a newbie.

PS: hi trice, damn, u are good. saw you play a few good games yesterday. i think i need a new ranking of players. Saw a few good ones these days.

                            • Ok, sit with the damn ball if you think it's more effective, I see much more benefit IN BEING ABLE TO FUCKING SHOOT WEAPONS INSTEAD OF RELYING ON A GUY 10 MORE GODDAMN TILES AWAY TO KILL THE GUY ON YOUR BALL WADDLING ASS.
I won't be shooting them being in front of you, because I'll be plenty open if I'm ahead of the ball, I'll very much enjoy everytime I have to warp back or turn around because of instead of being passed to while completely open, the person decides to waddle up a few slow ass tiles instead.

                              You don't think you're stellar?
Look up the strikeball players thread YOU created.

If you want to not be new, and play easy winning, you'll learn the benefit of the fucking quick catch and release along with the aim in the short time you're waiting for insert delay, and again, against GOOD defenders, it is ridiculously better to be passing it to an open guy and taking care of them yourself while they've been heading towards you, plus you're not LITERALLY wasting energy charging up the field and in most cases, into a miscelllany of bombs and bullets, which means without the stress on your engines and your ships hull from being shot. Suddenly, YOU have the ability to fire back (as well as being able to perform much better evasive fucking maneuvering). Who the fuck is misinformed here?

                              • I think its time for a grudge match, only it'll be a little difficult to schedule since I think I've only seen Creager in the sb arena twice.
