so here's the deal. castro and i are totally down with giving sb the development support it oh so desperately needs. we were chatting it up in ?go autosb, and we decided we need to know what people are looking for before we get started.

what do you want out of a bot?

so far we're thinking along these lines:

- basic matchbot type functionality (!add, !remove, !sub, !notplaying, etc)
- stats tracking! (time of possession, saves, steals, chokes, etc)
- database stuff (have the bot hook up with a website to display stats and what not)
- a twd type challenge system (it'd be a little rough, but it should be possible to set it up such that all interested parties could signup with the bot and either be on a chat with alerts or even simply a pm kind of system)

that's all i can remember off the top of my head. what else? toss out your suggestions. let's get this thread alive and kickin' with some discussion.

EDIT: p.s. castro and i mean you no offense, arceo. everyone's super grateful for what you've done with tooty, and we'd definitely like you to be in on all of the sb dev work.

So basically, I don't know enough about speedball or the community to take any leadership or authoritative action in regards to this, but I have the skills and a bit of time to really help out with bot, site and league development. There seems to be more interest in this game than ever and Jason, Weaver and I were just wondering if there's enough interest to have a TWD style system with a ranking system, stats, rosters, etc...

Another option is to just host player and game stats on a site. It might be interesting!

From what I gather, nobody's really in charge of this though? Maybe there should be a committee! Committees are great. Who wants to be Emperor? We also need a grand master wizard.

No one has ever answered this to me... what happened to the bot we were using for the sb tourney a year or two ago? The one that tracked every stat you wanted and even the ones you didn't. Similar to the HZ bots?

i'll talk to some hz dev people, proj. before hz switched to asss, they were running a number of bots off the twcore, so hopefully someone still has some leftovers that we can jack and get a bot up super pronto.

Maybe we can talk Conc in to getting us a speedball forum under general so we stop filling up this one with all these threads.

For bots; the original and still best soccer bot is PB bot. It auto-evens teams, it tracks ball carrier time, near ball time, turn overs, steals, ball carries, carrier kills, carrier deaths, saves, chokes, goals and assists, and probably a few things I'm forgetting. If you plan on writing a bot for SB, I highly suggest spending a few minutes (hours?) in PB checking out their bot, because it's extremely robust. If you can find him, 2d might also be a good person to talk to about a soccer bot, he spends a lot of time in PB.

For map dev, a few things from when I was working on the settings; the current settings are quite accepable for pub play. They're fast and pretty loose, with fun wormhole shots and a decently sized ball prox. However, for competitve play, an alternative map might be of interest with diagnols replaced by jaggies, prize-on-kill only (no center greens), rocks replaced with squares, wormhole grav off (no cheesey half courts), smaller ball prox for tighter passing/shooting, and by-ship/freq bomb/shrap/bullet color (see PB).

I, unfortunately, can't do map dev from this comp, but I'd be happy to try and assist anyone who picks up the task. A quick warning though, think VERY VERY carefully before messing with the ship/ball speed, and ball friction. They're touchy as hell and nothing can trash the settings faster. Just like programming, always keep your old versions, and be careful with how many changes you attempt between any two versions.

I'll most likely offer my help in one way or another, at least I'd use the system if it were made. I'm sure Jason will convince me to play anyhow, considering Im online way too often. If it had to be hosted, I get off work at 4am EST, and thats when Ive seen autosb active. I'd be glad to put an hour or two into hosting/playing sb after work.

yeah, we know arceo's doing some dev work. the more help the merrier though. if we get a bunch of heads together on this we can have a working bot and start improving on it and adding to it and what not all the more quickly.

i'll keep an eye out for 2d. i'm sure he'd help us out a bit. also, i'll try to lurk in pb (or even the new pb subarena in hz) and see what i can scope out.
