Ever heard of weekday events? And I just don't mean spur of the moment events. I mean something like "Warzone Wednesdays".

Genes' Thread on Trench Wars

My name is calm, and I've been playing Trenchwars since the first day it was created.


As much as I hate to say it, I agree with Genes. So much so that I decided to start an entire thread about it rather than just reply to his. Up untill about 2 years ago TW population was constantly expanding. Every day people new to subspace as well as people from other zones would come to TW for the first time, and end up making it their primary zone. The last 2 years has reminded me more of pro leagues fate several years ago... a slow, drawn out death.

I don't know what the solution is, but I hope one of you does.

You know I think TW is doing better now then usual. TWL actually works, TWD is stable, TWEL seems to be up and running again. Sure for the older guys it's getting boring, and they're leaving, but it happens. The problem isn't just training newer players.. it's getting them to want TWL. Alot of players are happy just playing pub or twd, we should make more effort to involve them.

i agree that lower staff members need to take a little more initiative with hosting and whatnot (that's their job, right?), but i think that otherwise staff is doing what they can to promote the zone.

Things are a lot better and stable then most other times in this zone. What a lot of people are talking about that is missing for them is the sense of excitement about things in TW. Nothing you or I can do would change that, most people get use to the game then it becomes an addiction almost trying to have fun in it. Once you get beyond all of that it just becomes another game. Stay and play some pub, move onto WoW or find something more important.

Fixing publics, firing Pure_Luck or hosting some games of zombies or some other godawful arena (any better then now) isn't going to change how you look at this zone.

sigh.....Most of what I didn't want to happen in this thread did.

I am not saying "newbies only play hosted games". I'm not saying promote me to staff. I'm not saying put "cool" people in. I'm not saying allow racism.

All I am saying is their needs to be a MAJOR change in either:

1.) The attitudes/thoughts of the CURRENT STAFF.

2.) Their needs to be new and fresh staff to replace them. ------------> This being said, I don't think looking at the Kose, Spastic, BasingCrew roster and recruiting more of "these type players" (if you can't see that staff is dominated by "newbie" basers, you are either a moron or in denial.....you choose). NO OFFENSE TO ALL THOSE SQUADS OR ALL THOSE PLAYERS THOUGH, that is NOT what trench wars needs. We don't need good little boys that follow EVERY rule that suck up to staff and say things like "Hey everyone how are you "...................NO. Thats bull shit. And its not how the majority of people in trench wars act IRL. Are you serious? How gay is some of the shit that goes on in this zone. Stop being little bitches about all these rules. Wow......if a newbie is getting teamed in baseelim......LET HIM GET TEAMED IN BASEELIM. The world 300 years ago (if you can understand this in a sense of nature) would have allowed weak players to get teamed. That is just nature that the good players stick together and team up on the little players. This, I feel, is gone now adays. When I was a newbie......I wanted to be good at this game. I used to watch Joe, USS Banana, Banzi, Blood, etc Dominate baseelim. And everytime they killed me or owned me i wanted to beat them even more......

Now adays.....with the introduction of .?go base READ THIS:

with .?go base......newbies are allowed to play and they get picked non-stop.

yea I know its good that they get to learn how to play and they get better much faster......
BUT THEY DIDNT STRUGGLE TO GET GOOD. THEY WERE SERVED "skill" on a platter. They didn't have to train by themseleves in order to get good. They just play go base all day. Thats why there is no competitiveness anymore.

Back in the day.....some people weren't picked in basing games, even in #mythrandir. You know what happens when a newbie isnt picked? He doesnt quit the game........he tries EVEN HARDER to get better so that one day....after he begs the captain to give him a shot........he shows that he is pretty good. And even though it may take a lot longer........he earns his reputation of getting better and struggling to do so. This is what makes the game competitive.


Stop revolving this zone around newbies. They are at the bottom of the food chain. Let them NOT get picked.....dont host .?go newbieevents. Let them get good in the ships/events the VETS want to play. This makes them want to be like them even more.

It's almost like TW is branching out in TOO MANY DIRECTIONS. Dueling arenas, TWL, Spider leagues, Baseelim, zombies, UFC, WW3..............All these arenas take away from the competitiveness of the primary objective in this zone.

It's boring. Newbie squads are in it.........I didnt play twl until I was 3-4 years deep in the game. Now, newbies are playing the 1st year and they arent that good/dont have that "struggle to earn being the best". This makes for a NON-Competitive Zone.


If you really wanna fix TW Pure_Luck.......Get rid of Every other fucking "league" besides TWL.

Get rid of TWEL, Spider-League, all these gay games with their own bots that dont attract "everyone" in TW.

TWL is the main focus........think to yourself why TW is not competitive.





Don't bash me either guys....think about what I said.....I'm not the best, I never was, and I prob won't be there. But there was a time where I thought I could.....and I wanted to so bad that I could have easily. To be honest, I have lost that "eye of the tiger", that NEED to become the best. There is just something not there in my case. THis is my case, might or might not be the same for others, but others definetly can feel or sense it.

This thread'll get merged with the other one, but many people are talking about how it's getting boring and what not... Did you ever think of the fact you've been playing some (admit it, it's pretty crappy) 2D spaceship game for numerous years? Yeah, population is going down, but back when most people started playing, P2P games weren't really widely used. I think the younger generation is more prone to play games like Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft and the likes rather then free, less actiony and graphical games. There's a reason why new games and new gaming systems are full of graphics and awesomeness, and it's because that's what appeals to people. Don't you think it's at all possible that it's not the game getting boring, it's the game itself with its graphics and game play that is just slowly becoming incomparable to the current competition of games and gaming companies that are making subspace look more and more like crap-- especially to someone who's never played before?

I think you guys need to shy away from "blaming it on the zone and how it's run" and lean more towards "this game sucking fucks and is not appealing to newer players in the current gaming society/is getting more boring by more of a 'natural selection' to current players."

Where'd you get the idea about TW being ran by 12 year olds? And why is this thread about good or bad hosts now?

Most of the people thinking they are really really cool are 12 year old. Not saying EVERY-12-YEAR-OLD-THINKS-HE-IS-COOL but most of them do. and I think if we do the 'TW'-SS campain correct we CAN get new people to play this game.. I mean this game is one of a kind, with the best but like the BEST chat system not to be seen in any other game!

yeah good idea, lets make a monday event, thuesday event, wednesday event.. this idea is the best so far people sure wont complain that specific events aren't hosted to frequently...

Maybe this game is no longer interesting to you, it has become less of an addiction for me lately but I still play on when I have the free time as a Moderator and I actually find some fun in playing the game. You should try it sometime. Is there anything besides giving the zone over to someone "cooler" that you can suggest?

true, it's been a week I really started playing again, before this like a year ago untill last week I would just login, chat a little on my chats and not be playing, maybe sometimes one event or so, now I started playing again I actually enjoy it again. So don't think tw is borring because that will MAKE tw boring

The population has been dying for a while now, because people get bored and go onto better things (ie: WoW)

I think the first 1-2 years of playing this game, its really fun, fresh, new.. but after the 2 year mark, the fire dies down and the game doesn't bring back those old feelings of entertainment.

This game is dying at a slow pace, and the only way to save it is to get a massive influx of new players. But then again, in this day and age, who would choose a 2d-spaceship-game over a massive multiplayer giant like World of warcraft?

If you think of all these games as businesses it's pretty clear that World of Warcraft's advantage is it's graphics (the obvious one) and other ones like playing with people all over the world etc.

With Subspace, it's free, small download, compact action, active community. I'm sure there's other stuff, but we need to promote the strengths of our game.

I agree, when i started playing this like 3 years ago, i had a friend explaining me the freakin buttons >.< , f1 took 2much time :P , perhaps make a short quik explaining shit + the mysepace blog, i cudve used one.
