Server Move?

My pings is quite acceptable 160 ave, but I had some really nasty spikes while in fr battles...

But I have been using my contacts in a major finnish ISP (Saunalahti) to see if they could host for free, as to my knowledge the current server isn't free and there are other sscu zones looking for hosting. I will let you know when I get their decision

Uhh? U live middle of nowhere?

example: In Oulu u can have 8/1mbit ADSL with 60€ per month...

And i havent ever heard that u cant get ISDN to somewehere (in finland)

Oulu just about the only place where you can get a good connection at that prise, Near Helsinki you have to pay 50e for 256/128 adsl...

Opoy the isp which delivers adsl connections to oulu and nearby towns is not so good as you think. I have Opoy's 8/1 adsl, and i get massive packetloss, pings are ok but packetloss is huge. Also download speeds have been bad for the last month or so. The reason is that since they started delivering 10/100mbit connections to flats, row houses and in some cases detached houses. This has tempted people to run a fileserver (illegal or not). Due to the massive traffic, opoys capacity isnt enough to handle it all. This problem isnt only for adsl users, but for dialup, isdn. Every single player that uses opoy has packetloss problems. Hope they'll fix it soon.

Ping up 60 ms to 160/170 on DSL. Which is what I got in the US on a 56k a couple of years ago.

My ping went from a good steady 210 (I'm in Canada, btw) with very little ploss or hiccups to a steady 150.. I hope I don't get ploss or anything.

210 wasn't a big deal, and 150 isn't a big difference.. I can hardly tell the server moved. It seems more just like 'a good day' than a whole new server, but whatever.. Who knew crossing and ocean and a few countries only accounted for less than 30% of my ping. Wow. No where near half the distance but all the ping! All the lag is on my side of the damn ocean anyway. Hah hah.

Oh ya and I had ADSL. So I never *really* lagged before and I don't now.

I live in Finland(Oulu) and im using 56k modem still seems that im not laggy...so i dont mind if server moves to states.:P
my ping is about 220ms if someones interested.....

In base though I lagged so much that I couldnt see mines, and a bit later my graphics got messed up so everything became PINK, and the ships became "boxes" (couldn't tell what was a spider and what was a terr).. :P

it was truly funny to watch some of the "elitish" players start bitchin in the test site and then in the site after the changeover

btw: im in Ontario Canada

was: 170-190ms for the last 6 months but for before that used to be around 130-150 at the old site

now:

a couple hours before the whole changeover i was 50ms
after the changeover i was 70ms for a while

but ive had between 50-70ms since usually with a 60 ave


AS for TW dying?
there may be a shift.....but i dont see it dying

Im sure theres players that like TW that switched to some of the North American servers because they couldnt stand the lag....and some may see their new pings and come back to TW

we may lose a few Europeans...which will be a loss...but over all for TW there will be increase

One thing Myth pointed out this morning for the TWD:
old servers = 120ms in finland
new servers = 20ms in US

should be better for the bots and overall as a whole should be better for TW's future with an overall average drop in lags as its been pointed out that a european can connect to US better then a North American can connect to Europe

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they're here to stay...


Avarage 20ms to 130ms in one day...but i dont mind coz i got mvp in "?go base" right at the first time i was there whit my massive new lag, they couldnt kill me, great.

Havent tested my ISDN connection, im using my friends ADSL now...hrrr.
