The Client hasn't has a major upgrade for 4/5 years, all the new current development is on the server side. Some nice upgrades would be to allow mp3/ogg/midi to be played, allowing longer music in arenas. Improved graphics (maybe the creation of 3d arenas - as in 2d viewpoint, 3d ship models over a 2d arena, to allow cool lighting effects etc, so when you shoot your spaceship lights up etc) Something to increase level download speeds, they are incredulously slow.

I made this sugestion a while ago:
Get someone to make a 1-minute promotional video, upload it to youtube and post a thread on this forum in which you ask people to watch the video as much as possible, click it, rate it w/e. That way more people will watch the vid, dl the game maybe...etc.
And it's freeI don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal...

Maybe you didn't read the first page.. there is already one of those. cundor.I found a nickel and I bought a fishing pole, Then I sold some fish, got a raft, fished more, sold massive fish, sold raft, bought a ship, hired a first mate (awesome), picked up a crew, won TWL.....

what cundor means I think is to repost that video on youtube and giving it alot of views and high ratings so that it gets up there in the most viewed/top rated videos of the day, people who goes to youtube wont find our promotional video unless they type in the word subspace in the search bar or something, but if it gets in the most viewed then ull get ALOT of promotion out of it

Marketing?
Hey guys, I do not have any new ideas at the moment. I believe that myspace/facebook are good bets to attract a few people, and I would also look to some asian/south american community/gaming sites also but I am not familiar with any of them.
I also would to ask if anyone here has a marketing degree? We are all talking about marketing, but there are actual things that need to be considered for proper marketing. You can tell your buddies, and post to voting sites...but that's not marketing per say. That's advertising right, only a part of marketing. Marketing takes a more structered plan than just voting sites and graphics. What do people want these days? If all you've got is "they want good graphics" then don't waste your time to reply. Aren't the nintendo DS and the wii the two most popular and trendy gaming systems right now for a different reason?I agree.

I've no degree in marketing but we can kinda break it down a little and spend some more time thinking about how to effectively and efficiently market an audience.
First we should begin by thinking about who we'd like to attract to our game, or more importantly who it will easily appeal to. I think this would be the age group of 10-20. The younger crowd might be easier to market to because they're more easily amused, but it might also be better to market towards them because as they grow up they'll still be able to play the game. Those around 18, 19, 20 are going into college or military and won't really have much time.
With that in mind we should be looking to advertise on sites that kids around that age frequent.
On a broad scope, we've only scratched the surface. I think there are ways to advertise continuum for free that we should tap into. We've got about 700 people total playing continuum every day, we should use that. We used it to win that game poll, we can extend it onto further things. Getting youtube video's to catch on is quite difficult when we're competing against aforementioned companies getting their clients' video's views. Digg.com might be a better approach because many of the links that get into the top 10 on the right hand column are just around 1,000 views. If we were to go the route of digg.com we'd need to schedule something ahead of time, a couple of weeks maybe and let everyone know when the article is going to be posted. If all 700 people digg it at about the same time we're going to have some more free advertising. This is just one idea that only took a short amount of brainstorming to think of. We can achieve advertising without sending money, but it would be very helpful if we stacked some advertising. Hitting up digg.com while simultaneously advertising on some other sites is more efficient.
With all that said, I wouldn't want to get started into any of this until we've at least got the tutorial arena set up. Many of us started this game while being taught how to play by a friend. It's not impossible to learn how to play the game but we don't want to turn away young kids from the game because it's too complex.
Edit: Oh I did think of one other idea. Often times when a popular music video or just a generally popular video on youtube comes out, someone takes that video and downloads it, then they add a URL at the end of the video. Even though there's another video out there that has 99% the same content, if you tag it right you're bound to gain some free marketing. So we need someone with some pretty basic video editing skills, which I'm pretty sure we have.1:Best> lol why is everyone mad that roiwerk got a big dick stickin out his underwear, it's really attractive :P
3:Best> lol someone is going to sig that
3:Best> see it coming
3:Best> sad

The marketing issue as I see it....
TW/SS reminds me of a small retail shop on Main Street and the WalMart has come to town. Do we really think that hanging a new banner in the window will make a difference? That advertising in the local newspaper will bring enough new people into the store to make a difference?
I have money, but I have no confidence in TW/SS. The game is past it's investment prime. The only real feasible future would be a substantial investment in the product itself. Without a commitment in the future of the product, the value of marketing it is virtually zero.

-Also if you're the master of deception... Make a myspace profile of a 16 year old girl from texas and then befriend a bunch of 13-65 year old males and tell them that you play subspace and if they wanna chat with you, meet you on the game because the police can't moniter the dirty talk and exchanging of words and information through the subspace/continuum chat due to the fact that we are in space and have no laws to abide by except the commandments at A1. Oh yea and make sure to tell them that its a great game. :turned:Last edited by UrMaMaIsFuNnY2K; 12-12-2007, 10:55 AM.

milosh I see you posted my youtube vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXqS2WCN2Xc
I originally wanted this video featured (which would mean it would get 100,000+ views) but I have copyrighted music so I am not sure that it even could be featured if I asked, do any of you know?
Maybe it could be featured because we are not using it to make money (ss is free), only using it to get more players...
also, is there anything else I could add to "tags" that would get people to see it...unless i should go the cheap way and add XXX porn blah blah lol1:Sensitive> i hit a family of ducks the other day on the high way
