animated banners wouldn't increase the ping...it would be a 3kb 1 time download run on the client's computer (as previously stated...). I think they would be cool!
What I think would be good, is if when you payed...your ships looked different to everyone elses, or if your bullets had a different color...or maybe, if you had a Rank associated with your name, or a title.
There are lots of little incentives
